Coaching Rugby in Malahide In Malahide RFC we encourage coaches to progress through certification in IRFU coaching courses as they advance through the age grades. From September 2014 all coaches at under age level will along with their coaching level be required by the club to have completed the associate referee’s course to add to their coaching skill set. Coaching is an integral part of rugby. From minis to age grade to representative matches. From clubs and schools to provinces and the national team a good coach can help players to develop to the best of their ability. If you are interested in becoming an accredited coach then the IRFU Coach Development Pathway is the way to go. There is a defined path for every level of coaching and IRFU accreditation for your achievements. Mini Course The mini section in most clubs is usually the biggest . In Malahide boys and girls from U5 and 6’s attend training every Sunday morning . Most coaches are parents who volunteer to help on a Sunday morning and this is where the through assisting the teams coach they themselves get involved and attend the IRFU Mini coaching course . This takes in all aspects of the game for children under the age of 12yrs down. Coaches attend 4 coaching seminars with on field particle sessions they cove refereeing , passing , tackling etc but above all inclusiveness . There is “NO” competitive games in mini rugby , this enables the less experienced to get plenty of game time and help improve their skill set and enjoy the game of rugby. Foundation The Foundation course is an introduction to the 15 a side game for coaches and helpers with limited rugby experience. Safety and enjoyment are the main themes of the course, and therefore the course is suited for people working with pre-teenage and adolescent players. The course develops the coach as a “Teacher” . Level 1 Above 18yrs The Level 1 course is for coaches working with 15 a side teams. The course deals with the Principles of Play by developing them through the use of Key Factor Analysis, applied to the Individual skills, mini-unit skills, unit and team skills. The course develops the coach as ‘Challenger’ Level 2 Head coach The Level 2 course is for Head Coaches working with advanced 15 side teams, with higher technical competencies and understanding of the game.
