Beginning of the Year Set Up
 Go to your N-Drive to open CPS Database
 Go to Settings/Delivery Options and be sure Show Clickers that
Have Responded is checked
 In Delivery Options, select the Receiver tab
o Plug in your CPS receiver, and then click Show Device
Manager. You should see a green check on the receiver icon.
o If no receiver is visible in Device Manger, click Options/Discover
Devices
Engage Lessons
 Go to your N-Drive to open CPS Database
 Select the Engage tab
 Put a check mark in the box in front of the lesson
 Check to be sure the correct class is selected
 Engage the lesson by selecting the Engage button with the green arrow
Reports
 Instructor Summary – shows final grade
 Question Report – shows individual student responses to each
question
 Session Data Export – used to export grades from eInstruction
and import into Gradespeed (online grade book program)
Create Lessons





 Prepare tab/Lessons and Assessments
 Select the title of your database or the folder where you want this
lesson to go
 Select New/Lesson, name the new lesson, click OK
Select the title of the lesson you are creating
Select New/Question
Use the Question Author wizard to input questions/answers
To add a graphic to the question change the Template
To engage the lesson, go to Engage/Lessons and Assessments
Select a Random Student


Select Class on the Engage Bar
Or select the Choose a Random Student icon on the
Response Bar
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

It is illegal to display student information and scores
Verbal Questions; Asking Questions “On the Fly”





Engage tab/Verbal engage
Complete Verbal Questions Set Up
Select Verbal and question type
Start/End Question
When the answer distribution appears, input the correct answer near the
bottom of the window
Fast Grade
This feature allows you to use eInstruction with paper worksheets and tests.
 Prepare tab/Lessons & Assessments
 In the Home section select New/FastGrade Lesson
 Input answers for the assignment
 To check answer input, click Previous lower left to go
back to the first question, and then click next to check work
 Go to the Engage tab to engage lesson
 To engage so that students see their pad numbers and input at their own
pace, select Assessment Set Up and select Student Paced
ExamView with eInstruction




The Exam View document must be saved on your computer.
Open your eInstruction database
In Prepare tab/Lessons and Assessments select Add
Files/ExamView
Locate the ExamView Assessment
CPS for PowerPoint (desktop)

 Be sure your CPS database and PowerPoint are closed
 Open CPS for PowerPoint from desktop icon
 To add questions an already existing PowerPoint go to
File>Open and locate the previously created PowerPoint
presentation
Use CPS PowerPoint toolbar to add slides, select Insert Question

To engage select Slide Show/View Show, use the F5 key or select the
View Show icon in the lower right pane
Notice the eInstruction toolbar opens with the PowerPoint presentation
The CPS Engage button will only be available when questions are
showing
In order to go to the next slide after a CPS question, close the CPS #
pad toolbar by selecting the red X once. The CPS toolbar will remain,
but the number pad bar will close. Only then you will be able to advance
to the next slide.
Email Lessons









Go to Prepare/Lessons and Assessments
Select the desired lesson and select Export
Give the file a name and save it in a place you will remember
The lesson saves as a .cxm file
Select Yes to Include Premium Standards
Open Outlook
Create an email and select Insert/Attachment
Browse to find the .cxm lesson file
Send the email
Import Emailed Lessons







The receiver will open the email, save the attachment, and remember
where it is saved
Open eInstruction
Go to Prepare/Lessons and Assessments
Select Import and the Browse
Change the Files of type field to CXM files or All Files
Browse to the saved eInstruction lesson and click Open
The lesson will be added to the eInstruction database
Export Student Names and IDs from GradeSpeed



Click on Grades button
On left, click Export Roster
Format: CPS/Click OK to Export the Roster

Click to View downloads

Click the drop down arrow to the right of Save
and Choose Save As
Save it on your N-Drive in your
eInstruction folder in a folder you create
called Documents

Import Student Names into eInstruction






Open eInstruction
Prepare/Classes and Students/Import/Other Sources
Select Comma Separated Values (.csv) file format
Browse to find your exported roster → Click Next
(The first time you may be prompted to fill in your
first/last name and your email address.)
Click in the check box → Click Next, then Done
New Class will appear in the left window pane
(If you want to export grades from eInstruction to
GradeSpeed do not edit Student ID numbers.)
Export Grades from eInstruction;
Import into GradeSpeed








In eInstruction, select Reports tab
Generate a report, then select Session Data Export, then Preview
Save as a .csv file (The file will open in Excel. Click Close.)
In GradeSpeed, create an assignment for the session
Select the Grades button, click on the assignment name in yellow
Click Import on the left-hand side of the screen, select Type CPS.
Browse to where you saved the grades file, click Import Grades
Click Update
