Tryout and Team Selection
• We examined whole tryout/team selection process with two goals:
• 1. Be as accurate as possible
• 2. Be as transparent as possible
• Not all players/parents may agree with all decisions, hopefully
everyone can respect the process.
• Key questions:
• Evaluators:
• BHS staff qualified and volunteer their time
• Coach Eppen: tryout details
• Evaluators will independently give kids a tryout ranking
• Parents not allowed to watch tryouts
• Tryout rankings will not be made public
• Tryout Length:
• One day at BHS
• Multiple days considered, but logistically very difficult
13
Tryout and Team Selection Continued…
• Coaches
• Previous coaches recommendations considered
• Current coaches not selected yet
• Case by case basis whether to consult
• Team Needs
• 8-10 players
• Find balance of inside/outside players
• Player/Parent input
• Bubble Question
• We are seeking to use as much information as possible while giving
each player a chance to display his current skill set
