Adjudicators Paul Anderson and Lauren McaColl Informal and friendly fiddle competition with three age groups and three classes: Class One, Fiddler of Strathspey: Tunes from the Angus Cumming Collection. 12 and Under – one tune from the collection; 16 and Under – 2 pieces from the collection; Open (Maggie Adamson Goblet) – set of three pieces from the Collection. Competitors may play in either one or two age groups eg 12 and under and 16 and under or 16 and under and Open Class Two, Fiddler of Strathspey: Own choice of music. 12 and under – one tune of own choice; 16 and under – set of to own choice pieces; Open (Reidhaven Quaich) set of own choice selection of different styles and sources eg traditional set of March Strathspey and Reel Competitors may play in either one or two age groups eg 12 and under and 16 and under or 16 and under and Open Class Three, Traditional Music Group. Own composition or arrangement for two or more players. Open (Grantown Society Trophy) Competitors may enter any or all of the classes: Open £3 per entry, 16 and under £2 per entry, 12 and under £1 in total. This will entitle competitors to take part in the afternoon’s informal workshops and tutor sessions. (Audience – Donations) 12 and under and 16 and under competitions first followed by awards. (12.30 – 1.15) During the afternoon, there will be opportunities to play with and learn from others including a full programme of activities and master classes as well as rehearsals for the evening fiddlers rally and concert. There will be displays including scenes from the story of the music of the Spey and exhibitions, demonstrations and talks including Carnyx and Sandy “Battan”Grant’s Rondello Fiddle and demonstrations including fiddle making. There will also be available indoor or outdoor games and activities for those who wish.
