sourced from some of the largest video game communities such as IGN, GameSpot and GameTrailers.
com. Significant topics, meaningful themes and sentiment are easily extracted and graphed for reporting to
the industry.
GameVoice Interactive enables managers within the video game industry to factor social media buzz
around various gaming topics into their business decisions. Social media is a treasure trove of consumer
insight that up until now, has been largely untapped by the industry. No longer will anecdotal conclusions
be made from select gamer comments online. The dynamic nature of the video game social media universe

research and insight analysis and gives the power for a manager to make strategic decisions and act in a
timely manner.

Sources
Social media sites where gamers elaborate on everything from games to publishers
to consoles and more are the basis of the GameVoice platform. GameVoice
captures conversations from over thirty of the most popular gamer websites
including GameSpot, IGN, GameTrailers and publisher and developer sites such
as the EA Forums and the Bungie online community. Over a million comments per
month are analyzed and sites are continuously monitored to ensure that the most
relevant conversations are included in GameVoice.
Categories
GameVoice tracks hundreds of categories that are relevant
to gaming industry professionals. Users can drill-down and
filter on any category from consoles to individual games to
determine conversation volume, sentiment, themes and even
influencers. Categories typically fall into one of the following
groups:
Consoles: GameVoice covers the Nintendo Wii, DS and
3DS, Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and PSP.
Games: Over 300 of the most popular console games, both
released and upcoming, are tracked.
Genres: All the major game genres from Action/Adventure
to Strategy are included.
Publishers: The top 20 game publishers including their
subsidiary developers are followed.
Retailers: GameVoice covers conversation on top retailers,
including brick-and-mortar and online stores.
Hot Topics: Trends in the video game industry, from motion
control devices like PlayStation Move and Microsoft Kinect
to the E3 Conference and more are covered here.
Thematic Categories: OpenMic has the power to create
categories that are thematic in nature. Thematic categories
around price, gameplay, graphics or intent to buy allow
the user to understand exactly what topics are dominating
online conversation about an individual game or console.
Sentiment
One great feature of GameVoice is its ability to measure the online buzz within
gaming communities. Traditional surveys and focus groups becomes secondary
as consumer sentiment is now measured using a larger and more accurate
sample – the top online video game communities. GameVoice is able to recognize
and measure sentiment (positive, negative, mixed or neutral) from actual
verbatim in forums, reviews and blogs. Using natural language processing, it
statistically analyzes this unstructured text with a high degree of accuracy. Slang,
misspellings, and other bad grammar are now accurately analyzed.

Emerging Topics
Although GameVoice covers hundreds of categories that are easily identifiable and
observed regularly, hot button issues still occur unexpectedly within a business.
Topics such as software bugs, marketing failures, bad gameplay and overall
consumer dissatisfaction can bubble up within the world of social media on a
moment’s notice. The average product or marketing manager is usually caught off
guard and slow to react to these problems. The Emerging Topics function within
GameVoice Interactive finds conversational trends and alerts the user when these
statistically significant matters arise. Whether they be negative or positive in nature,
a manager can manage the consumer expectations of the brand with a faster
response rate.
Influencers
Within the video game industry, key influencers abound with every game or
platform. Many times, these influencers can sway sentiment within gaming
communities and influence the perceptions of others. As a marketing or product
manager, a competitive advantage is gained when identifying who these key
influencers are. Post count, sentiment, and destination are now at the fingertips
of managers for actions such as consumer outreach, product development and
marketing campaigns.
Insight Explorer
Every manager focuses on different issues within their business. Marketers track brand and game
reputation. Product Managers will focus on specific game attributes. Retailers may focus on launch buzz.
GameVoice Interactive already tracks key topics and categories but how can a manager expand this
research? The Insight Explorer function within GameVoice Interactive now allows for custom search and
analysis of significant topics within millions of online conversations. Users can create a data set specific to
their needs and use Insight Explorer to dig deeper into the words or topics that are driving the conversation.
Actual verbatim comments related to the topic at hand are available for deep insight analysis.
