Nottinghamshire Cricket Board
Primary School’s Chance to Shine Programme 2016/17 (Free)
Introduction to Cricket in Nottinghamshire
Nottinghamshire has a rich cricketing heritage, being host to the third oldest international
cricket ground in the world “Trent Bridge”; home of the Nottinghamshire Outlaws. A large
number of Nottinghamshire boys & girls have gone on to represent their country in recent
years stars such as Stuart Broad (Nottingham) Jake Ball (Mansfield), Samit Patel
(Nottingham) Jenny Gunn (Newark).
Our Chance to Shine (CtS) Programme Aims:
“We wish to provide opportunities for all school pupils to engage in a high quality skills
based programme, with opportunities for them to progress within cricket”
Key Stage 1 aims:


We wish to work with KS1 Students to develop fundamental sport and
movement skills, based around the national curriculum such as running,
jumping, catching & throwing. Key movements for all sports; not just cricket.
To provide an assembly visit by our coaches prior to the sessions and a whole
school teacher training session, Introducing Cricket as a sport and its rich
history within Nottinghamshire. (Professional players may attend, dependant
on training commitments)
To support ECB’s National Entry programme- All Stars Cricket (New for 2017)



As a sport we are one of the first national governing bodies to recognise that
developing fundamental skills is critical for 5-8 year olds and the need to
provide a programme for this specific age group.
All Stars Cricket enables children to acquire the skills to play the game and
connects them to England cricket heroes. They will have the opportunity to
play alongside mum and dad and further develop there fundamental & cricket
skills.
Relating to this work, we will have a
number of All Star Cricket centres set up
across Nottingham City &
Nottinghamshire, via clubs, school sites,
and community venues. (Specifically
related to our Key stage 1 delivery in
schools)
Key Stage 2 aims:


To deliver a programme that provides further enhancement of basic cricket skills and
provides schools/teachers with the confidence to participate in Kwik Cricket
competitions.
The CtS Programme will provide coaching support to deliver a high quality striking
and fielding syllabus. This curriculum support programme is designed to enable staff
to develop their own knowledge and understanding of cricket, whilst working



alongside a qualified coach from your local cricket club; or one of our community
coaches.
We can provide an assembly visit by our community coaches prior to the sessions and
a whole school teacher training session.
To master agility, balance and coordination skills through the use of progressive
sessions, with advancement being both player and coach lead.
To develop a broad range of skills and understanding to enable young people to play
sports such as cricket; in accordance to guide success and failure through
understanding and evaluation.
Who will be delivering the coaching?
Our delivery will be done by our community coaches,
specifically trained and well experienced in working on both
fundamental & cricket skills, at both clubs schools and
community groups.
