TOOWOOMBA BOWLS CLUB INC. GREENKEEPER JOB DESCRIPTION - GREENKEEPER 1. DUTIES – GREENS Overall management of the Club’s greens, maintaining them in good condition. In accordance with accepted principles of good greens management such as cutting, rolling, scarifying, coring, top dressing, spraying, watering and any other renovating work as and when necessary. Prepare whatever greens are required for play according to the Club’s playing programme and any other requirement by the Board of Management or as directed Chalk mark all green for club tournaments and championships and club playing days. Prepare shade covers, mats and jacks prior to the commencement of play and store these items after play has finished for the day. Keep the surrounds, ditches and grounds in proper order and free of weeds and debris including the cleaning of ash trays. Alter rink pegs and change direction of play as deemed necessary to comply with good greens protection and maintenance policies. Ensure adequate supplies of treated soil, fertilisers and and other such treatments as necessary are on hand for day to day maintenance and yearly renovations. Ensure that all Club machinery and plant, tools and equipment used in the Greenkeeper’s duties are kept in good working order and they are cleaned and oiled and properly housed. All tools to be tidily sorted and all sheds to be swept and kept clean. Ensure that equipment does not leave the club premises unless authorised by the Board of Management. Ensure that all toxic substances and sprays are secured and kept in a locked place. Ensure all protective gear is stored and kept dry and worn at all times when such toxic substances are being used. Apply herbicides, pesticides and sprays as per label instructions and by recognised safety methods. Apply fertiliser, water and otherwise tend to the playing surfaces of the greens as required to maintain the greens in top condition. Keep a daily register as to herbicides, pesticides, fertilisers and top dressings with application details and dates. Keep a diary on work carried out each day. Renovations of the greens to proceed as soon as possible once club playing programme has finished for the year, under the supervision of the Greens 2. Director Observe at all times safety precautions and procedures including the wearing of protective clothing and equipment. SURROUNDS AND MAINTENANCE 3. Keep gardens, concrete areas, lawns, trees, seats in a clean tidy condition. Maintenance work to be carried out after consultation with the Greens Director and approval of the Board of Management where significant expenditure is involved. GENERAL PROVISION 4. The Greenkeeper should hold a Commercial Operator’s Licence as required under the ACDC Act and a Level 3 Greenkeeper’s qualification as a minimum level requirement. The Club shall supply one (1) pair of protective footwear per annum and as required , wet weather clothing. Such articles are to remain the property of the Toowoomba Bowls Club Inc. When applying pesticides, herbicides, insecticides or fungicides, the Club will supply one (1) set of such protective clothing and equipment as recommended by the relevant legislative awards. All pesticides will be applied with due regard to the safety of Club members and neighbouring properties. First aid emergency supplies as deemed necessary by the Inspector shall be kept in a convenient and accessible situation. The Greenkeeper shall apply a written monthly report covering the current conditions of the greens and other property together with recommendations for future action. This report is to be presented to the Greens Director for presentation to the Board of Management at its monthly meetings. Co-operate with Australian Agronomists and follow recommendations from any such report provided through the Greens Director and any relevant government departmental authority guidelines. Attend Greenkeeper meetings and seminars, workshops and any other relevant conferences as mutually agreed with the Board of Management and provide written reports of any such attendances to the Greens Director for presentation to the Board of Management. The Greenkeeper shall not permit any unauthorised person or persons entry to the sheds housing all chemicals, machinery and plant, tools and equipment the property of the Toowoomba Bowls Club Inc. The Greenkeeper shall ensure that all Workplace Health and Safety Regulations are adhered to at all times. AUTHORITY The Greenkeeper shall take instructions from the Greens Director only and discuss pertinent matters only with the Greens Director. The Board of Management will take steps to prevent any undue interference, but shall exercise ultimate authority over the Greenkeeper and the Greens Director. The Greenkeeper does not have authority to purchase materials or order repairs to machinery etc. Any such purchases or repairs shall only be carried out with the approval of the Board of Management under the supervision of the Greens Director. 4. EXTRA-MURAL ACTIVITIES The Greenkeeper is contracted to the Toowoomba Bowls Club Inc. which Club shall have first call upon the Greenkeeper’s services. The Greenkeeper shall be employed by the Toowoomba Bowls Club under the current Award - Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2010 such conditions shall underpin all conditions of employment
