Purpose:
The prime purpose of the TSL Goal Umpires Coordinator (Southern Region) is to:

be responsible for the delivery of the umpire coaching program, and

facilitate the development of umpiring support personnel
Role:
To be a leader in the football community and to create a positive learning environment which facilitates the
improvement of on-field umpiring performances.
Person Specification:
 Experience: Experience as a Goal Umpire is essential.

Knowledge: Must have up to date knowledge of the Laws and Interpretations of Australian Rules Football and
the skills and techniques required by Goal Umpires at the highest level. Must have a thorough knowledge of The
National Accreditation Scheme and modern methods of course delivery.

Organisational: Must be well organised and have the ability to lead, organise, coach and manage umpires.

Punctuality: Must be punctual and furnish reports etc. on time.

Co-Operative: Must be able to work as a member of the coaching team and be able to accept advice and
direction when appropriate.

Professionalism: Must set an example by his/her own professional attitude and behaviour and be willing to
develop himself/herself in the job. Must hold Umpire Advisor/Coach Accreditation or be prepared to undertake
appropriate training.

Commitment: Must be committed to the Tasmanian Umpire Structure as articulated by AFL Tasmania.
Duties:










In conjunction with the TSL Goal Umpires Coordinator (Northern Region) and State Umpiring
Manager/Coach implement a uniform coaching plan for TSL Goal umpires in the 2 regions (South and
North/North-West).
Take a leading role in the TSL Squad Pre Season Seminar Day particularly in relation to Goal Umpire
activities.
Be prepared to follow the AFL Umpiring Department in regards to Goal Umpiring guidelines and
interpretations.
Make the appointments for TSL Seniors and Development matches in his/her region. Submit the selections
to the State Umpiring Manager/Coach for ratification by the Friday morning of the week before the games.
Ensure all Tasmanian State League (TSL) senior matches in his/her region are observed each week by a TSL
Game Day Coach (Observer).
Furnish TSL Senior Game Day Coach (Observer) Reports to the State Umpiring Manager/Coach by the
Monday following the weekend match.
Conduct individual Mid Season (by the end of June) and End of Season Reviews (by the end of October) with
all TSL Senior and Rookie Goal Umpires in his/her region.
Keep statistics of all individual goal umpire performances at TSL Senior level and forward this information to
the State Umpiring Manager/Coach and TSL Goal Umpires Coordinator (Northern Region) at the end of each
month.
Conduct and direct practical and theory sessions with TSL Goal Umpires in his/her region on a regular basis.
In conjunction with the TSL Goal Umpires Coordinator (Northern Region) and the State Umpiring
Manager/Coach design a suitable Umpires Match Assessment Form for use at TSL Senior and Development
level.














Observe a TSL Senior and a TSL Development match on a weekly basis and provide both verbal and written
feedback to the umpires.
Appoint Goal umpires to Southern TSL Practice Matches.
In liaison with the State Umpiring Manager/Coach and the TSL Goal Umpires Coordinator (Northern Region)
select the TSL Goal Umpire Senior and Rookie Squads.
Member of the TSL Goal Umpires Appointment Board.
Manage the delivery of the Level 1 & 2 Accreditation for all TSL Goal umpires in his/her region.
Design and implement a training plan for TSL Goal umpires in his/her region.
Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with Regional Umpire Coaches and staff.
Training and coaching support to be provided to Regional Goal Coaches and Umpires.
Be responsible within the Goal umpiring group for quality outcomes for the under mentioned:
 100% accreditation within TSL Goal Umpires Squad.
 Quality referrals/recommendations to the State Umpiring Manager/Coach in relation to the Talent
programs.
Attend meetings/seminars as required.
Co-ordinate skill based activities for TSL Goal Umpires in his/her region.
Observe and facilitate feedback to TSL Goal Game Day Coaches.
Support the recruitment and retention of umpires.
Carry out other duties as required by the State Umpiring Manager/Coach.
Reporting Relationships:
The TSL Goal Umpires Coordinator (Southern Region) will report as required to the following:

State Umpiring Manager/Coach
Remuneration:

Reimbursement for incurred expenses. Actual remuneration to be decided by AFL Tasmania.

Evidence of experience as a leader within football or similar organisation.

An ability to liaise and build relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.


Requirements:

Involved with or prepared to become involved in the AFL Umpire Coaches Accreditation (Development &
Advanced Courses).

Mandatory Working with Children approval.
Review/Monitoring:

To be conducted by the State Umpiring Manager/Coach mid season (by the end of June) and at the end of
season (by the end of October).
Performance will also be monitored periodically during the season.
