settings. Promote partnerships with various agencies and groups, as well as continue collaboration
with many campus-based initiatives.

MAED programs in elementary education, English education, history education, middle grades
education, reading education, and special education. Advise all graduate students in these
programs, as well as work with program area coordinators to schedule graduate courses. Complete
check-outs for graduating students as well as serve as contact person for all six programs. Work
with scheduling and planning for AIG Summer Camp experiences along with AIG licensure courses.
Create and maintain a 5-year projected schedule for all MAED courses. Work with departmental
and college leaders to create a variety of MAEd cohort student groups with successful completion
of 5 different cohort groups in Rocky Mount, Granville County, Jacksonville, Halifax County, and
Dare County.

Consulting Experiences
• Working with Greene County Schools in action research projects for Kindergarten through fifth
grade. Work incorporates action research projects in each grade level; in conjunction with Dr. Katie
O’Connor and Dr. Carol Greene. Project began August 2006 and will conclude April 2007.
• Working with Project Significance, ongoing staff development work with Greene County Schools
from 2002 to present, providing in-service on topics of behavior management, transition from

second to third grade, and maximizing use of instructional time, as well as providing individual
support services to Initially Licensed Teachers. Most recent work is extended to include transition
planning activities for Headstart, Pre-K programs in the school system, and start of school activities

Study-Travel trip to Mexico. Topic: “Preparing K-12 Teachers to Educate Latino/Hispanic
Students.” We travelled to: Mexico City, Valle de Chalco, Puebla, Chalchihuapan,
Monterrey for presentations on Mexican culture and education, school visits,
demonstrations of teacher training, discussions with Mexicans who had family members
in the US, meetings with teacher training faculty, and overnight homestays with Mexican
family hosts.

week-long symposium on Global Education was held in Conjunction with the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, N.C.
Textbook Collaboration, (1999 -2003). Drs. Chris Shea and Scott Thomson worked with

Responsibilities included data gathering in local high school; interviewing random sample
of town women representing all socioeconomic classes; participant observer in
ethnographic study of women’s clubs, gatherings, etc. As a result of our research, Dr.
Peshkin published his classic ethnographic study of rural education
Peace Corps Volunteer, Pre-School Coordinator for Sousse Government, headquartered
in Monastir, Tunisia, North Africa. Reported directly to the Minister of Education; directed
special studies; coordinated work of over 50 Tunisian teachers in a pioneering effort to
upgrade academic curriculum and to increase cost-effectiveness of preschool programs.
As a result of this pioneering pilot project, for the next two years, I worked with Lili Wilson
to co-author the official government publication, Language Development Curriculum for
Tunisian Pre-School Children.
