List of iPad Programs and Applications All of these applications and programs will be used during the vocabulary workshop implementation. Students will be able to practice vocabulary items and skills using hand-on, interactive, multisensory applications and programs. 1. SPELLING CITY – gives students an opportunity to study words using interactive vocabulary games and activities. Students can input their own vocabulary lists and practice both, spelling and meaning. 2. WORDGIRL WORD HUNT - presents unknown words within narrated stories about WordGirl, a superhero who uses her powers to fight villains. Children use visual and context clues to select the correct meaning. They’re rewarded for their correct choice with a game in which they tilt the device to make WordGirl fly. 3. PIC COLLAGE – is great for creating photo posters, short image-based stories, learning vocabulary by associating words with images and more. 4. VOICETHREAD or ITALK RECORDER – lets record oral discussions and lesson instruction (could be sent home to students who misses a lesson or used for review). Students will be able to create and record "multimedia conversations" and dialogues. 5. DICTIONARY – allows access to online dictionary and thesaurus. 6. LIFECARDS - creates simple digital postcards with images and text. 7. TYPEDRAWING - inputs text, pictures, and go to town drawing. It is a great way to explore content vocabulary with color, pictures, and creativity. 8. STORYROBE - creates simple video stories that combine a slideshow of images with student’s narration. 9. STORYKIT – creates a digital storybook with vocabulary words, pictures and sound. It allows its users to share books with others. It is a practical tool for teachers, and can be used to create their own storytelling books for instructional purposes and share them with their students. 10. COMICLIFE or STRIP DESIGNER - creates digital comics. Students can include their own photos or drawings. 11. ANIMATE IT – is a wonderful and simple app for creating stop motion animations. It can be used at any grade level to accompany oral presentation. 12. TEXTROPOLIS and FISHTROPOLIS - In this game, players rearrange the letters in city names to form as many words as they can. As the number of words increases, the cityscape is filled with objects. As each word is formed, its definition is displayed. The sequel, Fishtropolis, uses a similar premise–players use the letters from fish names to form words. A nice feature of these apps is that they support use by multiple players who share a device. 13. CHICKTIONARY – allows students to practice vocabulary words by building them using available letters, educational game. 14. DOODLE BUDDY – can be used for vocabulary illustrations, easy to use. 15. IMOVIE – allows creating movies and video clips. 16. PAGES – creates appealing to students and effective handouts, tests, quizzes, assignments, notes, and presentations using this word processing application. With 16 templates for everything from cards to fliers, teachers can incorporate graphs, charts, videos, and photos into their projects to add interest and better illustrate information. Capable of file sharing, Pages also allows for saving files in convenient Word and .pdf formats as well. 17. TEACHER’S ASSISTANT PRO – allows teachers to track students’ behaviors, and achievements quickly and easily. Incidents on student behavior and achievement can be documented in real time and reports can be sent to parents and administrators instantly via email. Organizing important documents is also simple and clutter free. The app can be customized to fit your classroom needs. 18. KEYNOTE – creates visual aids to go along with instruction: animations, pictures, tables, charts, videos, and other multimedia touches. 19. DROPBOX – by synching with other technological devices, allows users to access documents and files anywhere. Teachers can save their findings and data for future offline viewing and organize them into specific galleries, files. 20. EVERNOTE – allows iPad users a high degree of portability for their digital documents. Capable of reading Word, Excel, PowerPoint, .pdf files, rich text, plain text, HTML, and other file formats, it allows transfer between desktop and portable device using USB and iTunes.
