sports and can be played all year round
in any school gym

Floorball is similar to Field Hockey; however, it
is played with advanced lightweight sticks
and rules that make the game much safer

To play at schools – Floorball only requires
sticks, balls and some cones

Teams consist of up to 20 players – 5 field
players and a goalie are out on the field at
one time (for school or recreational play, no
goalie is needed – play with an open net for
more scoring)

No protective gear is needed, because the
rules are designed with safety first in mind and
all equipment is lightweight and easy to
control

Floorball can be played anywhere there is a
smooth surface – inside or outdoors - exercise
all year round

Floorball is played by millions of
people in over 50 countries around
the world.

There are more Floorball players
than field/ice hockey players in
Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and
the Czech Republic.

Floorball is becoming more popular
in New Zealand and there are three
NZ teams – men´s, women´s and
U19 men´s team.

In many European countries,
Floorball is part of the school
curriculum.

The epicentre of floorball in NZ in 2015 is
Wellington. In New Zealand the sport is still
relatively new and the Wellington Club is the
biggest floorball Club in this country.

Wellington have over 140 teams and more
than 1000 players. They are organising
succesful school leagues, social leagues
and Wellington floorball leagues. Teams are
U10, U15, U19, Womens league and several
grades of Mens leagues.

Other floorball areas are Hamilton,
Palmerston North, Upper Hutt, Christchurch
and Dunedin.

The Wellington Open Floorball Tournament
has been held annually since 2008 and is
the biggest and longest running Floorball
Tournament in New Zealand. The winner of
this tournament becomes the New Zealand
Floorball Champion.

No stick interference

Cannot swing stick or hit the ball above
the knees

No foot passes to a teammate

Cannot touch the ball with your hands
or head (except goalies)

Cannot put your stick between an
opponents legs

No jumping to play the ball

No entry to a small goalie area for all
players (except goalie)

Physical education classes
 Appropriate for any age years– primary, middle
or high schools.
 Boys and girls can play together.
 Excellent cardiovascular conditioning. Improves
hand-eye coordination and overall athleticism.

Afterschool
 Perfect way to keep kids active during after-
care programmes!
 Many schools have summer sports programme.
Floorball is ideal!

Interschool competitions
 A great sport that fosters cooperation and team
play.
 Form teams for inter-school and district play.
 Consider using floorball as an excellent fundraising activity

5 or 6 players per team (no formal
goalie or goalie)

Use smaller, official Goals or cones to
create goals – bigger scoring area for
younger ages.

Play 3 forwards, 2 Defence and 1 Goal
Position (rotate with other field players)
– goal position uses stick and plays as
3rd defenceman

Free substitution or rotate players as
desired

No offside rules

Consider cross-court games to increase
participation at younger ages

The Auckland Floorball Academy was established in
2015 and is proud to introduce the first ever Floorball
League in Auckland. We are offering school
competitions, coaching, training and team
competitions. We would like to offer kids, adults and
seniors a sport that's fun and competitive for all playing
abilities. For our more talented and competitive players
you can have the chance at being apart of our
National League throughout New Zealand.

The President and Head Coach of Auckland Floorball
Academy is Oldrich Duchan - former professional
player from the Czech Republic, 1st Czech league, 1st
German league – silver medalist, 4th in points in the
biggest floorball tournament of the world (Czech Open
– over 140 teams), silver and bronze medalist New
Zealand Open. Coach Career – Czech leagues,
German league silver medalist , Auckland floorball
league, New Zealand Open Bronze Medalist. We are
ready to make Floorball become one of the most
popular sports in Auckland and throughout New
Zealand.

