Students will use the political cartoon Analysis Worksheet to analyze
this cartoon. (Attached)

Students will answer the EQ in their own words (KWL)
Opening (5-10 Minutes)
Go over the political cartoon
Introduce Government
Explain the pretest
Work-Time Activities (35-40
Minutes)
Students will complete the pretest over Government and Economics. Once
they have completed the test students will go over the basic rights of citizens.
Closure Activity (10 Minutes
Compare what they answered for the EQ to what they learned.
Ticket out the door.

Which of the following is an example of how the system checks and
balances works in Georgia? A. reducing property taxes B. overriding

Brainstorm what they know about a Senator and Representative and their
qualifications, duties, etc for the state of Georgia

Students will take notes over the qualifications, term, election and duties of
members of the General Assembly in Georgia.

Writing: Students will write about the merits and weaknesses of a twoparty system. They will include examples from current events, the government and history standards (white primary, one-party system) to make their
arguments for or against. If they are against the two-party system, they will
explain an alternative to the current system. (A fishbowl will be conducted
in Mangacca’s Room on Friday over this topic)
