Activity 3 review

Activity 1
Investigation
The answers to these questions should help you to organise your ideas.
Investigation
What is the name of your
shelter?
Which animal(s) will your
shelter care for?
What did you decide?
Teacher feedback
Response to feedback
I chose the name of my animal shelter
wisely hence the name ‘Lions Need U
Now.’ The name of my animal shelter
makes others (my target audience)
sympathetic towards lions as they are
made aware lions need them.
The logo was blurry, the
text blended in with the
background and have to
look in to the colours to
make it eye-catching
As a result, I had to
improve the graphics and
chose a different colour and
font because I wanted my
logo and name of my
animal shelter to be
attractive and remembered.
I decided to care for three different
types of lions which includes: Lion Cubs,
It’s hard to find lions in
the wild hence it would
be hard to gather
information about them
for example feeding
costs, medical cost and
bedding costs.
So I decided to research
about lions and their
financial costs in places like
safaris and other
originations or charity who
care for lions so that I can
care for as many animals I
can
Big Sized Adult Lions and Small Sized Adult
Lions. This was because to care for maximum
amount of lions.

Investigation
How much per year will it cost
to feed each animal?
What are the expected medical
costs per animal?
What other requirements might
your animal(s) have? e.g.
bedding
Are there any rules or
regulations that you need to
consider for your animal(s)?
What did you decide?
Teacher feedback
Response to feedback
On average we spend £3333 annually
on feeding our lions. This may be
considered quite expensive but we
need to keep each and every one our
lions fit and healthy.
To investigate and
research further online
about the feeding costs
of different types of
lions.
So I researched the feeding
costs from online
organizations which gather
information of animals so
my cost is more accurate
and precise.
£14 000 per annum ( includes
vaccination, operation, medical checkup
on often basis)
To include monthly
checkups, dental, and
operations
I researched medical cost
from different lion shelters
and decided the best
figures which suited within
my budget
Lions need lots of large forest areas for
playing and entertainment. This is
needed so lions are in a healthy state
all the time.
To research further for
animal requirements to
keep them company.
I researched from different
website and sources and
decided the most
economical requirements
lions would need to keep
them company
To be looked after cautiously and with
care as they are a rare species and only
a few hundred remain in the world,
near to be extinct by end of the
century.
To have researched for
accurate information
I researched the
information accordingly to
the situation.

Investigation
What did you decide?
Vets- £31,107.00 per annum
What salary will you need to pay
Care Assistant( apprenticeships)- £840
your managers, care assistants
and cleaners (and any additional per annum
staff)?
Cleaners- £7,117.50 per annum
Teacher feedback
Response to feedback
Make sure you have
realistic figures, to stay
within your budget and
to pay your employees
fairly and a right wage.
I had to research how much
each worker would get paid
so I had to fill it out on m
model accordingly to the
figures.
Review
Survey
3 of 8
Explain how you carried
out your survey.
To make it easier for myself and the people who I surveyed I emailed everyone the survey. This would
prevent hassle and cause less problems and confusion for people filling out the survey.
Give details of some
conclusions that you can
draw from your survey
I had asked 10 people to do my survey. From that I had got a variety of mixed answers and I had at first
recorded this on an excel spreadsheet. To make it more organised, readable and presentable I had
presented the results of my survey on an Access database. To further retrieve information and analyse
the results I had received from my survey I had created queries which presented the particular results I
wanted to in a table. To further present my work in a better manner I had created reports. In my survey
for my lion shelter, I analysed the results by producing various amounts of reports on Access which
enabled me to retrieve different pieces of information about whether people were willing to sponsor an
animal or not, to volunteer at my animal shelter, and even how much were the people who were
surveyed willing to donate at a monthly basis. I had created 10 different reports which gave me 10
different pieces of analysis off the results I had retrieved as a result of carrying out the survey. Out of 10
people I had surveyed, 6 people had answered yes to question one which was asking whether the person
was fond of lions or not. Only 20% of people had adopted an animal before and they were either cats or
dogs which were taken in for adoption. Out of the people I had surveyed 6 people had seen animal
shelter advertisements before on a television the rest had seen it on the internet. Everyone except one
person would donate between £1-£5 and more. Only 4 people would take in consideration to sponsor an
animal and 2 people which might consider to do so. Out of all the people I had surveyed only 2 people
would work voluntary at my animal shelter. Half of the people I surveyed would ban lion hunting.

Logo
Explain the design of your logo and how it represents the
shelter.
My logo has a picture of a lion with a crown on its head which
illustrates that the lion is the king of the jungle but they are not
being treated fairly or in a good manner and it shows the animal
shelter’s ultimate goal and determination to restore the lions at
the place they should be in the jungle. Also I chose brown font to
match the colours of the jungle surroundings hence making it
more realistic and appropriate to fit in with the other colours I
have on my logo. Moreover I decided to enlarge the logo to make
it visible and to illuminate it as it would be easier, more appealing
and eye catching for my target audience.
What features of the software did you use to create the
logo?
In Fireworks I was able to erase parts of the picture I wished to
and get rid of any unnecessary parts of pictures which were not
relevant. I was also able to crop in order to have the logo to be of
appropriate proportion and size. I was able to use the magic wand
which helped me erase particular background colours I wished to
this was helpful as it enabled me to cut background colours which
would have not suited perhaps my logo, parts of my web banner
or digital poster. Similarly on PowerPoint I was able to crop and
resize images which was particularly useful if I wanted only parts
of a large size image.
What feedback did you get from your teacher and test
buddy?
Teacher: White Background and no more than 2 colours for font
What action did you take as a result of the feedback?
I changed the background and only used 2 colours or font.
Test Buddy: No room for improvement.

Web banner
How does the banner promote the shelter?
The banner explains a story of a lion who went on an adventure
sadly who gets shot by a hunter on the way, this illustrates how
lions are being treated in the world. Also it has a short scenario of
what lions dream to be if they are let free e.g. playing baseball.
How does your banner represent the shelter?
The web banner crystallises the reality of a lion’s life and
juxtaposes the way lions are treated and how they deserve to be
treated. This includes a short scenario of what lions dream to be if
they are let free e.g. playing baseball in contrast of them being
hunted down by people. Also I used the logo of my animal shelter
to show what company it’s from and to show it’s unique from
others.
What animation did you add to your banner and why?
I used the animations of an arrow flying and a ball being hit. I had
used the arrow flying to show the lion being hunted down by
people and it emphasises the lion’s suffering and a large drop in
numbers of lions in recent years. The ball being hit by the lion
makes the lion happy as it has restored and is fit and healthy. This
emphasises the fact that lions should be treated in this way
instead of being hunted down.
In what format did you save your banner and why?
J PEG and PNG to make it easier to crop and edit the pictures and
the size I wanted it to be.

What feedback did you get from your teacher and test
buddy?
What action did you take as a result of the feedback?
The text could be different and the speed of the states
I slowed them down and made the text and fonts clearer and
visible to read for the viewer.
