A Parent/Carer Guide to Special Educational Needs Inclusion Funding (SENIF) SENIF is money that Pre-schools, maintained nurseries, childminders and Out of School Providers can apply for to help them to support your child if he / she has special educational needs. The Local Authority is required to provide support to the settings with additional funding if the eligibility criteria is met. SENIF is only available for children in receipt of the government free early education places at the pre-school / maintained nursery. Your child will have been identified as having a level of special education needs (SEN) that requires a high level of provision to be put in place. The Early Years setting will work with you and your child, to identify the provision and interventions needed to enable your child to make progress. The setting is able to make an application for SENIF once your child is known to Portage or a Specialist Teacher. Specialist Nursery Placements are requested at the Early Years MultiAgency Planning Meeting (MAP) that meets 6 times a year. You will receive an email confirmation or letter to tell you the outcome of the discussion by the County SENIF Funding Officer or the MAP Meeting. The funding will be agreed for up to a year and will be reviewed. For this application, the Pre-school will ask you for your written consent and your email address or phone number, so that we can let you know the outcome. Once the application is received by the Local Authority it is considered by the County SENIF Funding Officer. Transport is not provided.
