DIVISION C: PHOTOGRAPHY All the general “Rules of the Show” apply to the Photography Division in addition to the following rules and regulations: Rules of the Photography Show 1. Entries will be accepted 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 1st. Photographs must be placed in the appropriate class by the exhibitor. 2. All photos must remain in place until the conclusion of the GMRS Rose Show on Saturday July 1st. Any remaining photos after 4 PM will become the property of the GMRS. 3. All rights to submitted photographs will be retained by the owners of the photographs. By submitting a photograph to the contest, the owner confirms that they own the copyrights of the photo and are not legally prohibited from submitting to the contest. 4. Exhibitors do not need to be a member of GMRS to submit photographs. 5. All photographs must be the work of the exhibitor and must be the work of a single exhibitor. All roses photographed must be outdoor grown roses. 6. If the roses photographed were grown by the photographer, the exhibitor should indicate such by writing “EG” in the upper right hand corner of the entry tag. Photos that are EG are eligible for Gold, Silver, and Bronze ARS Medal Certificates. 7. Exhibitors may enter no more than 2 photographs per class. A photo may not be entered in more than one class. 8. Previous winning photographs, defined as First through Fourth place in the ARS Digital Photography Contest or ANY national photography contest may not be entered in this show. 9. All photos must be mounted (that is with a backing board of art board or foam board) and matted, with outside dimensions of 11” x 14”. A selection of various color mats will be available at the show for purchase ($2) and assistance will be provided as needed to mat. 10. All photos must be 8” x 10” and can be displayed landscape or portrait. Color of mat is at the discretion of the exhibitor. 11. Exhibitors must completely fill out an ARS horticulture entry tag and attach it to the upper left hand corner of the matting with a paper clip. Tags will be available at the show. 12. Identification of the rose(s) in photographs is required for Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Rose varieties must be entered under ARS approved exhibition names as listed in Modern Roses database, the Official List of Approved Exhibition Names, or the Handbook for Selecting Roses. 13. Judging will be in accordance with the current ARS Guidelines & Rules for Judging Rose Photography. Judges can bestow or withhold any award as they see fit. Decision of judges is final. 14. First, second, and third place awards may be given in each class. There will be a Queen, King, and Princess chosen from the best in class winners. ARS Certificates and rosettes will be awarded. 15. All judges of the Photography Contest and their immediate family are not permitted to enter this contest. CLASS 44 One Bloom One bloom, no side buds, of Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, Miniature, Miniflora, or Floribunda classifications of roses. Roses designated as “single” (e.g. Single HT, etc.) must be entered in Class 46. Rose name must be indicated on entry tag. CLASS 45 One Spray Two or more blooms on one stem, any type of rose of Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, Miniature, Miniflora, or Floribunda classifications of roses. Rose name must be indicated on entry tag. CLASS 46 One bloom, fully open, no side buds, stamens must show. Roses classified by the ARS as “singles” ARE permitted in this class. Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, Miniature, Miniflora, or Floribunda classifications of roses are included in this class. Rose name must be indicated on entry tag. CLASS 47 Old Garden Rose, Species, Shrub, Polyantha, or LargeFlowered Climber One bloom, with or without side buds, or spray of two or more blooms with or without side buds, of an Old Garden Rose, Species, Shrub, Polyantha, or Large-flowered Climber. Spray photos may include collections. Rose name must be indicated on entry tag. CLASS 48 Arrangements A photo of any arrangement, miniature or standard, following the American Rose Society Guidelines for Judging Rose Arrangements. Rose Names must be indicated on entry tag. CLASS 49 Macro Photography Photographs should be extreme close-up photo of any part of the rose or rose plant. Color, Black & White, Sepia or combinations of these are permitted in this class. CLASS 50 Public Rose Garden Photographs should show the use of roses within the structure of a garden, which can be widely variable. Roses should dominate in the photograph, and some lay-out of the garden should be visible. The name of the rose garden MUST be listed on the entry tab CLASS 51 Private Rose Garden (Private Individual’s Garden) Photographs should show the use of roses within the structure of a garden, which can be widely variable.
