Westport Gran Fondo 2017 COMPETITION RULES FOR COMPETITORS PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Gran Fondo: 122 km Medio Fondo: 70km Competitors must register on Friday 10th March 2017 in the Castle Late Night Venue, located beside the Westport Plaza Hotel on Castlebar Street. Please Be Advised Registration will not open before 5PM. Friday Registration starts at 5pm until 9pm. There Is Strictly No Registration before 5pm & Also After 9pm. Registration On Friday & Saturday Will Take Place In The Castle Late Night Venue. Saturday Registration Gran Fondo 7.30am – 8.30am Medio Fondo 8.30am – 9.30am Know your race number. A competitor list and their numbers will be on display inside at sign on. Please find your race number first before going to sign on. Mandatory Kit: It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the kit below with you on Saturday at Westport Gran Fondo Helmet Mobile Phone Puncture Repair Kit (2 Spare Tubes, Tyre Levers, Pump) www.westportgranfondo.ie Westport Gran Fondo 2017 Foil Blanket Basic First Aid Kit Photo ID Weather conditions are unpredictable; therefore this kit could save your life. Photo ID. No Photo ID No Registration Each Competitor will receive the following at Registration: Competitor number to be worn on the back of your jersey. Note Numbers must be visible on race day – Rain jackets and other garments cannot cover your race numbers You will also receive a timing slip & bike number which is to be placed on your bike. You will also receive your complimentary pass for the after race party on Saturday 10th March at 7.30pm in the Ashleigh Suite of the Castlecourt Hotel. Please note, if you wish to bring along a friend to the after race party, you can purchase a ticket at registration for €15.00 which includes buffet & Entertainment. Competitors Briefing is compulsory The Gran Fondo race briefing will take place outside the Forecourt of the Castlecourt Hotel at 8.45am sharp with Gran Fondo Cyclists departing at 9am. The Medio Fondo race briefing will be taking place at 9.45am, with Cyclists departing from 10.00am. Failure to attend this informative race brief could end up with you missing vital information. Both events are ‘mass start’ meaning everyone will start together. In the interest of safety we ask that elite and advanced cyclists start at the front of the bunch. All beginner cyclists are advised to start at the back of the bunch for your safety. Please co-operate with the marshals and only enter the starting area when called. www.westportgranfondo.ie Westport Gran Fondo 2017 Rules The Gran Fondo Event will commence at 09:00am sharp. Warm up is permissible, however, all competitors must be present at race briefing at 08:45am The Medio Fondo Event will commence at 10.00am sharp. Warm up is permissible, however all competitors must attend pre-race briefing at 09.45am. Competitors who do not have a timing slip on their bike will not be allowed to start the race and if they go unnoticed they will not get a finish time. Competitors who do not have the following will not be allowed to start the race: o Competitor number clearly pinned to the back of their jersey o Timing Slip o Mandatory Kit Once competitors have entered the start area they will not be allowed to exit until after the race has started. Competitors must take instruction from the starter and the marshals around the course. Failure to heed marshals will result in time penalties and/or disqualification. Personal stereo equipment is strictly prohibited i.e.; iPod, MP 3, Radio etc. Please be courteous and be tidy at Food Stop areas as items left lying around cause accidents. Do not interfere with other competitors bikes. You will be cycling on public roads, the rules of the road apply, you must obey all instructions from the Gardai and Marshals, they are there for your safety. No drafting behind vehicles. Failure to comply will result in heavy time penalties and/or disqualification. Crossing the white line in the centre of the road with live traffic will result in immediate disqualification; cycle no more than 2 abreast. Safety personnel reserve the right to remove any competitors from the event who they believe are putting themselves or others in undue danger. Slower competitors should stay towards the back at the start for safety reasons, so that they are not overwhelmed by the rush at the start. Westport is one of Ireland’s tidiest towns and with this in mind we ask all our competitors to please dispose of all their litter correctly. Please Do not Throw litter on the routes, there are bins at all food stops and finish area. Always give way to faster competitors where possible. www.westportgranfondo.ie Westport Gran Fondo 2017 Please note you must give way to faster competitors on both routes. Cyclists you must pull in to your left and let them through in a safe manner. The lead Moto Marshal will signal to cyclists to slow down, pull in & give way to faster riders. Toilets will be at Lettergesh & Drummin National Schools so please Do not Urinate in Public Areas or on Public Roads. Puncture repair or mechanicals should be carried out in a safe place and off the main road. Communicate to the cyclists around you if you are in need of assistance or if you are changing direction. At all times you must keep your hands on the handlebars. The famous victory salute of throwing your two hands in the air at the finish line is strongly prohibited. www.westportgranfondo.ie
