– Offside interpretation
– FIFA 2013/14 Law Amendments

– Discussion Groups with match incidents
Offside Decision Making
• Positioning is vital. Just being half a metre
ahead or behind play will give you the
wrong viewing angle
• Side-ways viewing angle will ensure your
position is accurate
• Concentration is essential to ensure
accurate decision making
• Any part of the body which can score a goal
should be considered when judging offside
Offside Decision Making
• If in doubt, DO NOT FLAG. The benefit of
any doubt should be given to the attacker
• Take a ‘picture’ as the ball is played and
store it........you may need to refer back to it!
• Apply the ‘Wait & See’ technique before
making your decision
• Now let’s have a go at making some
offside decisions...
Offside Interpretation
• Being in an offside position is not an offence
• Assistant Referees must be able to distinguish
between players who are inactive and those involved
in active play
• It only becomes an offence if one of 3 criteria are met
– Interfering with Play
– Interfering with an Opponent
– Gaining an advantage by being in that position
