
Does a baseball roll further on dry grass or wet
grass?


There are many things that could effect how far
a baseball rolls.
A baseball seems it to roll further on wet grass.
Long grass and how hard the ball is hit can also
effect how far the ball goes.
When the ball is on wet grass it has less grip.
If I test rolling a ball on dry and wet grass I can
see which rolls further.


If I roll a ball in dry and wet grass then I
predict the ball will roll further in wet because
the grass is slippery.

Constants: Same materials, and same location.
Independent variable: If the grass is wet or dry
Dependent variable: How far the ball rolls
Control: Wet or dry grass, and the height of the
ladder

Materials: Ladder, wood, baseball, grass, water,
and a tape measure.
Steps 1: Get materials.
2: Put the wood on an angle on the ladder.
3: Set the baseball on the ladder and let it roll
down.
4: Measure how far the baseball is from the ladder.
5: Dump water on an area of grass
6: Repeat steps 3 and 4.

I measured the distance in inches. The ball that
rolled on wet grass rolled further. The average
distance for the ball on dry grass was 171.1
inches, and for wet grass 182.9 inches. The ball
ended up rolling pretty far because of what
step the wood was set on.
Problem: A baseball rolls further in wet grass then
dry grass.
Hypothesis: My hypothesis was correct the
baseball did roll further on wet grass.
