JACOBS BLOCKING TROPHY
BRIAN PICCOLO AWARD
The Jacobs Blocking Trophy is awarded
annually by William & Hugh Jacobs of
Clinton, S.C., to the player voted the
outstanding blocker in the ACC in a poll of
the head football coaches. The trophy is
given in the memory of William P. Jacobs,
who served as President of Presbyterian
College from 1935 to 1945.
One of Wake Forest's most famed athletes,
Brian Piccolo was an All-America selection
in 1964 after leading the nation in rushing
and scoring. Piccolo played professionally
for the Chicago Bears for four seasons before
his career came to an end after he was
stricken by cancer in 1970. The Brian Piccolo
Award was established in 1972 by the
league's head football coaches to honor the
ACC's most courageous football player.
