Invitation Letter

Barclays British Universities Tennis
Mixed Doubles Championships
Friday 2nd June – Sunday 4th June 2006
Dear Sir / Madam,
I cordially invite you to attend the inaugural BUSA National Mixed
Doubles Tournament, to be held this June. Here at Glasgow, we believe that the
exciting tennis discipline that is Mixed Doubles has been previously overlooked in the
BUSA tennis calendar. We have therefore teamed up with BUSA and Barclays to bring
to you this new tennis event that will now take place annually.
Venue
The tournament will be held at the Next Generation Tennis Centre in Anniesland,
Glasgow (directions will be emailed to all participants before the event). This new
facility offers 6 indoor-carpeted courts, an excellent refreshment area, function suite,
and fitness facilities for use throughout the tournament.
Tournament Format (see right)
The event will include 32 mixed doubles pairings
from across Britain. There will be 8 groups of 4
teams, playing a round robin
(win[2]/loose[0]/draw[1]) format. In these group
stages (played over Friday and Saturday) the
matches will consist of two tie-break sets. The finals
day (Sunday 4th June) will include quarter finals,
semi finals, and the final, all of which will consist of
the best of three tie-break sets. Immediately
following the final there will be a short prize giving
ceremony (PGC*).
Seedings
The seedings for the tournament will be at the
discretion of the tournament committee, and will be
based upon:
1. Joint LTA rating
2. Joint national LTA singles ranking
3. Position of University in BUSA league

Accommodation / Transport
Participants will be staying in lively hostel accommodation within reasonable distance
from the tournament venue, and their entry fee will cover bed and breakfast as well as
transport (via a minibus) to and from the hostel.
Social Events
We are planning a social night on the Friday night, and a big function on the Saturday
night, for all applicants, their coaches, and the tournament officials. We think that this
will be a great way to round off the group stages, and build the excitement for the
knockout stages, which will follow the next day.
Application Process
Due to constraints placed on us by the funding body, we must hold the event this year,
and so have chosen the weekend 02/06/06 - 04/06/06. As a result we require the
completed application form together with the £25/pairing entrants fee (cheques made
payable to: Glasgow University Tennis Club) to be posted to us by Wednesday 3rd May.
Simply print off the application form attached to the email from your sports president, fill
it out, and post it back to us at the address below.
Please can you email us with your intention to participate to [email protected]
(include your university, names, and telephone numbers) Friday 28 th April, so that we
can begin to book your accommodation.
We look forward to receiving your completed applications (with cheque) by Wednesday
3rd May.
Kind Regards,
Brian MacCormack
