Dear Parent / Carer
At Pre-School we use an on-line Learning Journal called Tapestry to
record your child’s progress and development whilst they are with us.
This is an interactive journal and to build a strong parent partnership
we encourage you to share it with your child and add to it either
leaving comments and feedback to our observations or by adding your
own photo’s and comments.
Feedback from parents has been very positive, especially as a way of
finding out and talking about what children have done at Pre School –
a photograph often gets them talking! We would also like you to use
the journal to tell us what your child enjoys at Pre School and what
they would like to do more of so that we can take their idea’s and
interests into account when planning.
You can install the Tapestry app to your iPhone, iPod, iPad or
Android device. Search for Tapestry Mobile: Online Learning
Journal. You can then login using the
e-mail address and password given on your Registration Form. You will
be prompted to create a 4 digit pin of your choice and should then be
able to see any observations that have been added, comment on them
and add your own pictures etc.
To access Tapestry using a PC search: https://eylj.org/ and enter the
same login details as for the app.
Additionally, each time an observation is made you will be notified via
an e-mail from Tapestry Online Learning Journal. Just follow the link
and it should take you straight to the observation.
Each child’s journey can have individual accounts set up for parents
and relatives to access. Currently the accounts are set up to the
main e-mail address given on the registration information. If you
would like individual accounts as parents or for any other relatives
please let me have their e-mail and a password and I can set this up.

Tapestry allows staff to record photographs, videos, Development
Matters statements and Characteristics of Effective Learning (CEL),
all of which you will be able to see and comment on.
I am sure you appreciate that staff will post observations as
frequently as possible, but that it is more important that they are
spending time with the children on session not just writing and posting
observations! You can expect your Tapestry journal to be updated at
least once during a 2 week period, this may be photographs/video with
a short explanation, just a written observation and may or may not be
linked to Developmental Matters statements or CEL’s. The journals
are as individual as the children they are about and therefore it may
be that you seem to get a lot of posts at some times and not as many
at other times.
