CPD - Transition of playing formats

Forward Thinking!
18 players (5v5 with a side pitch of 4v4)
(7v7 with a side pitch of 2v2)
Players pick a 5v5 formation i.e. 1-2-1 / 2-2
7v7 formation i.e. 2-3-1 / 3-2-1
Players are encouraged to travel forwards
with the ball when the opportunity arises.
Split the pitch into thirds and award players a
goal if they travel into the next third.
Progressions:
-Players cannot pass forwards
-Players must dribble out of their third
Defending when
outnumbered!
14 players playing 6v8
The yellow GK starts with the ball and plays to
one of the 3 defenders. They can dribble the
ball into the next section and join in or a pass
can be made to one of the 2 midfielders (if a
pass is made any one of the 3 defenders can
join the next section).
Once one defender has joined the midfield
making a 3v1 they can then try and play into
one of the 2 strikers. Once this has been done
2 from the midfield can join the next section
making a 4v3.
Adaptions – include a time limit in the
for the attacking team once in the final
half or allow defenders to recover.
First Time Pass!
18 players (change numbers depending on squad size).
Players pick a 9v9 formation i.e. 3-3-2/2-4-2/3-4-1.
Start with a pattern practice – players locked in zones.
Can you try and get into a position to pass the ball first
time?
Players are locked in their zones, if you pass the ball into
the next third with a first time pass one player can
progress into the next third.
Progress:
- If you play a first time pass into the next third, both
thirds unlock and players can go anywhere (play till a
goal and them reset).
- Offside lines indicated by the thirds.
- Bonus goal for first time passes.
