WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PES
CHAPTER OUTSTANDING ENGINEER
AWARD (COEA)?
Provide an opportunity for a PES
Chapter to recognize the outstanding
contribution of a local engineer to
the power engineering profession.

• What is the purpose of the PES Chapter
Outstanding Engineer Award (COEA)?
• How does the COEA work?

• What are the mechanics of the COEA?
HOW DOES THE COEA WORK?
• Each Chapter establishes its own selection criteria.
• Some recommended criteria to consider include:
– Technical contribution to the power engineering
profession
– Professional & leadership contribution to the power
engineering profession, specifically for the Chapter
– Contributions to the local community that reflected
the power engineering profession.
– Service to IEEE and the Power Engineering Society,
specifically for the Chapter

Outstanding Engineer Award (COEA)?

WHAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE IN
THE COEA?
PES will provide, at no cost to the
Chapter, a plaque to the recipient.

Outstanding Engineer Award (COEA)?
• How does the COEA work?
• What is the bottom line in the COEA?
• What are the mechanics of the COEA?
WHAT ARE THE MECHANICS OF
THE COEA?
• The Chapter appoints a selection committee of
at least three individuals.
• The Committee design an appropriate
nomination form, which includes space for the
nominee’s area of contribution as well as the
nominee’s IEEE/PES activities.
• The Committee send out a request for
nominations and evaluate the responses.
WHAT ARE THE MECHANICS OF
THE COEA?

• Chapter select the winner (one award per
Chapter per calendar year)
• Forward a plaque request to the M/C
