Letter from the President
Mary Grosser
The year is rapidly ending, and it is unbelievable that this is the last edition of the News Update for 2016.
The end of the year brings a natural pause point to access progress, to ask what has been accomplished,

Reflection on Cognitive
Engagement
This well-known (debatable)
quote was the first sentence I

Magda Kloppers

through my mind.

Research on critical
thinking in 2016
Based on research conducted by
Buckhaults and Fisher (2011) the
Accounting classroom seems to
create anxiety for educators as
well as learners.
Stef Esterhuizen
During 2016 research on critical
thinking continued with Edward
de Bono’s Six Thinking Hat
Strategy at Roshnee Pre-school.
The circle map and bubble map
were also informally introduced
to the Grade R-learners.
Imagine your students are at the
edge of a brave New World;
uncharted and hostile, yet
beautiful and desirable.
