Over the last few weeks the teams having been playing a lot of matches to clear the backlog of
games caused by the long wet winter. A prime example being the athletes that are the senior
Saturday team who played six matches in eleven days – it’s fair to say there were quite a few tired
and aching bodies after that schedule! Overall it has been another successful season across the Club:
U8s
The U8s have had a brilliant first season with both the players and team making big steps forward.
The team has played a few friendly matches where the evidence of a promising future has been
seen. Player numbers have remained high all year and there is the potential of splitting into two
teams for next season – a bright future awaits!
U10s
Due to the way the U10 fixtures are structured the team have not had many matches to play since
the turn of the year. Although frustrating it has enabled the team to continue training and prepare
for a step-up from playing 7-a-side this year to 9-a-side on a bigger pitch next season. The team will
also be using the offside rule for the first time so the extra preparation time has been welcomed.
U13s
Despite a number of good performances the U13s have had a very tough season and finished
without winning a match – or even gaining a point! Although on the surface this doesn’t read well it
has been a positive experience to witness the players still turning up each week with smiles on their
faces and enjoying playing the game despite the results. Character building 
U15s
Champions!! The U15s have had a terrific season winning 13 of their 17 matches to end the season
on top of the league. The team have been strong all year putting together several long runs of
victories and playing some very entertaining football doing so. A great achievement.
U16s
After a strong season the U16s have done themselves and the Club proud by finishing as runners up
within a tough league. The team has been consistent all season and the level of effort and dedication
from the players and coaches is obvious to see. Well done all!
Senior Saturday
The Saturday team had a lot of matches to play in a short period and managed to put in several good
performances against teams at the top of the league. The team finished in 7th position in their
league but only three points from 4th – the Club was aiming for a higher finish but are still proud of
the team completing another tough season.
Senior Sunday
The Sunday team have had a challenging season involving a high turnover of players and also a
change of management. Despite this the team has finished in mid-table.
With the football now complete for another season thoughts are turning to the annual awards day.
This year it will be held at the Recreation Ground on Sunday 5th June from 12:00 with the normal
BBQ, games, competitions and of course the presentations. All are welcome to come along and help
the club celebrate another successful season. The club has 72 junior players across the age groups in
addition to another 30 or so in the adult teams so it is always nice to reward them, the coaches,
managers and volunteers in a small way. Further details of the awards day can be found elsewhere
in this month’s magazine and around the village.
Initial plans are also being made for the next football season with the club again looking in a strong
position with regards to the number of players and teams taking part. Prior to that there will be a
busy summer of updating qualifications, improving facilities and renewing equipment. If there is
anyone who would like to become involved with the Football Club, in whatever capacity, please feel
free to get in touch.
On a closing note the Club would like to thank Chiseldon Parish Council for the ongoing support and
help provided over the last nine months. Thanks also to the Chiseldon Sports & Social Club who
make their facilities available for the Club to use.
Have a good summer.
Regards,
Matthew Clarke
