Yours Sincerely Jane Johnson Rules Team Requirements Squad Size = 11 Players (squads must be made up of at least 4 players from each gender from Year 5&6) Team Size = 7 a side (Teams must be made up of 7 players with at least 3 players from each gender - if you do not have enough girls or boys please still enter, it just means you cannot qualify for the level three event but all the players you have still get to play). A try is worth 1 point. To score a try a player must carry the ball over the opponent’s try line and press the ball down on the ground, no diving. No forward passes are allowed. The Tag Tackle Only the ball carrier can be tagged. (The removal by a defender of 1 of the 2 ribbons from the ball carriers belt.) The defending player who makes the tag must hold the tag above their head and shout ‘tag’ and along with the rest of their team, stand back on their own side allowing the attacker to pass. When the pass has been made the defender must give the tag back to the tackled player before rejoining the game. Once tackled the ball carrier must pass within 3 seconds, and take no more than 3 strides. Free Pass A free pass is used to start the game and to restart the game after a try. (From the middle of the pitch) The player taking the free pass must pass the ball and not just pick it up and run themselves. The opposition cannot start moving forward until the player has passed the ball. At a free pass the opposition must be 7 metres back. A free pass will be awarded for any infringement and will be taken from where the infringement occurred. There are No Scrums, Lineout’s or Kicking in Tag Rugby.
