Aloha Mokapu Ohana!
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving
weekend with your family. The Christmas Holiday
will be here very soon which means the end of the
second quarter of school. Although there is not
much time your child still can do what he or she
needs to do to earn an award at the second
quarter Recognition Assembly in January. More
information of the award criteria is posted in this
newsletter. We are so proud of the efforts of your
children.
Please read the newsletter for dates of our
upcoming Holiday Show. It will be a great event.
I’d also like to thank all our parent and Marine
volunteers who helped with the Turkey Trot. The
children had a great time and would not have
been possible without the support of our
volunteers. Thank you.
Thursday, December 1, 2016 is our next School
Community Council meeting. During this meeting
we will discuss our upcoming WASC accreditation
visit. This is late notice so if you are interested in
finding out more please let me know through the
email below.
As always, thank you for choosing Mokapu. Feel
free to contact me any time at
[email protected] if you have any
questions, concerns or good things to share.
Sincerely,
Chuck Fradley
Principal
Mokapu Elementary
Thank you for all you are doing to
ensure your child's success and growth
at school. After completing the Parent
Conferences, reviewing Quarter 1 grade
reports and progress reports, families
should still continue to contact their class
room teachers if there are any concerns
or questions. As I get to all of the class
rooms each week and get to see all of
the students throughout the day, I am
seeing positive attitudes and a willingness
to receive correction, grow in our learning
and taking advantage of the opportunities
in-class and after-school activities. Thank
you for all you do, as we together create
an excellent learning environment here at
Mokapu Elementary.
Another reminder regarding health and
safety, the only way your students will be
learning with their class is when they are
in school. There may be times, though,
that may require a student to stay home.
In any school, especially one as large as
Mokapu, inevitably there will be some
instances of sickness or other health
issues that occur. At times when a
student contracts a sickness, keeping
yourself informed regarding health and
hygiene for your child, their classmates,
and the adults working in the class.
Please get advice from your pediatrician.
Some of the health issues that commonly
occur include ringworm, hand foot and
mouth, mononucleosis, lice, pin worms,
etc.
Again, thank you for your support and
commitment to your children, their health,
safety, and their academic success

Student Council is starting a fundraiser and we need your help! We will be creating a cookbook
called "The Taste of Mokapu". With all of the diverse backgrounds here on our campus this is
sure to be a treat!
Here's what we need on one document:
Name of your dish
Name of the family/student/grade level
Ingredients
Directions
Any picture of the dish or your family
Send your family recipes to [email protected]
This book will be put together and sold around February 2017.

Students have been hard at work in the library! Here are some
shots of Ms. Zigan's first grade class doing some Thanksgiving
coloring. Students were challenged to use three or more colors
and to make a pattern. They did a great job! Please remind your
children to take care of their library books and return them on
time. Happy Holidays!

invest in our military kids’ morale than providing
artistry? If you or anyone you know has artistic
talent that would like to share please contact PCNC

Mahalo for your Support!
Many of our fundraising efforts for the 2016-2017 school year by the Mokapu PTA are designed to
raise funds to continue school improvement and beautification, to expand our enrichment
programs, and to offer new and exciting experiences to our students and families.
By contributing towards our fundraisers, you are fostering family involvement, creativity in our
students, and helping to keep vital programs at Mokapu Elementary! When contributing to PTA
sponsored events, 10% of every fundraiser is diverted to Enrichment Program Funds. Our goal is to
continuously expand on our programs that we offer to the student body.
Our commitment to enhancing the minds and bodies of our students with a wide range of
enrichment programs is something we want to bring back year after year. In this year alone your
support towards Pencil Grams, Amazon Smile, Box Top contributions, Papa John’s Pizza Nights, Fire
Up your Feet activity, donations and our Vendor Fair have totaled over $5,000! With this money we
have been able to support and implement projects that benefit the entire student body and their
families. Some of these projects include money given to each grade level to use in the classrooms,
future installation of water fountains, Student Council support for a team building retreat, and
Monthly All Pro Dad Breakfasts. We hope to raise more funds to continue improving the school and
the lives of our Mokapu Ohana!
We are beyond grateful for your continued support to our students and school. To learn more about
our upcoming events or how you can become involved, please reach out to us at
[email protected]. We look forward to continuing our partnership with our Mokapu families.

Our Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support System (PBIS) will be
kicking off this month with our monthly value of SHARING and CARING.
Your child(ren) will be learning what sharing and caring means, what it
looks like, and why it is important. They will also be given an Imua ticket
whenever an adult on campus sees them displaying characteristics of
sharing and caring, which they can redeem on Friday after school for an ice
pop.
Please help support our Imua values by having your child(ren) wear the
color RED on Wed, December 7th.
