Analyze
The Analyze tab is where you go to view the statistics for your recorded matches. On the
Analyze screen, you will see a list of all your current teams. You can always experiment with
the “Sample Team”.
• Navigation
• Real-Time Analysis
• Categories
• Outputting Stats
Navigation
A very powerful feature of iStatVball is the ability to “drill-down” on your statistics data. For
example, you can see the All-Time hitting percentage for your team, or you can drill-down
and see the hitting percentage for just one Season, or drill-down further and see a single
Match, or drill-down even further and see an individual Set.
A drill-down path might look something like:
All-Time - Season - Tournament - Match - Set
At any point along this path, you can either summarize the stats at that level, or continue to
drill-down further.
Tap this button to summarize stats at the current level. Tapping at the team
level will show All-Time stats for the team.
Tap this button to drill-down to the next level in the hierarchy.
TIP: Tapping on a calculator button is much different than tapping on a drill-down
arrow. The calculator summarizes stats while the arrow drills-down to the next level in
the stats hierarchy.
Other Criteria
There are additional analysis criteria available that are not directly part of the drill-down
hierarchy. These include analyzing by:
1
• Match (View by single or multiple matches)
• Date (View by single day or a range of dates)
• Opponent
• Location
• League
• Home vs. Away
• Statistician
For each of these criteria, you can tap the table row to see the list of all matches
corresponding to the specified criteria. For each match, you can then use the normal
summarize and drill-down techniques.
Last Match
When drilling-down on a team, you will see a Last Match option, which is a convenient way
to quickly jump to the stats for the most recently completed match.
Current Match
If a team currently has a match in-progress, you will see a Current Match option, which
allows you to conveniently jump directly to that match. In-progress matches and sets will be
highlighted within the navigation interface.
Real-Time Analysis
You can analyze stats in real-time at any point while recording a match. Simply pause your
recording session then switch over to the Analyze tab. Use the Current Match option (see
Current Match) to jump directly to the match in-progress.
You can view stats calculated up to the moment for either the match as a whole or for just
the current set. All stat categories are available and can be customized under Settings (see
Summary Reports). This is a powerful feature for analyzing stats during timeouts or
in-between sets.
2
Categories
Once you have navigated to the desired level, you can choose from a variety of statistics
categories.
Players
Select the Players item to view a list of all players on the roster. From there, choose a player
to view a summary report of statistics for just that player. The report will also include a
comparison against totals and averages for the entire team.
Custom Reports
Select the Custom Reports item to view a list of all the custom reports that you have created.
From here, you can select a specific report to view. A custom report can include any
combination of stats categories and individual tables. You can create any number of custom
reports (Pro) (see Custom Reports).
All Categories
Select the All Categories item to view a compilation of all team stats categories at once.
TIP: The All Categories option is a great way to view all of your team stats at once,
but generating the report can be slow on some devices.
Overall
Summary
The Summary report presents a quick view of the most commonly accessed stat categories
and is customizable. It can be viewed for any summary level as well as in real-time during a
match. Supported stat categories for this report can be enabled or disabled from the
Summary Reports setting.
3
Results
The Results report shows a list of results for all matches at the current summary level
(season, tournament, etc.) including the date, win/loss result, and set scores.
Box Score
The Box Score report (Pro) generates an official NCAA Volleyball Box Score. It can be very
useful for quickly submitting results to the media. The Box Score report is only applicable for
the Match summary level. See the NCAA website for a detailed description of the format.

the Matches screen. From there, tap the Edit button. You can then edit any of the optional
information fields. Note that the fields of a previously recorded set cannot be edited.
12
TIP: If you forgot to assign a match to a season or tournament, you can do it at any
time by editing the match info. All previously recorded stats will automatically be
updated.
You can also edit the date and time of the match. This can be useful for “back-dating” when
recording stats from video or paper for a past match or for creating future matches (see
Past/Future Matches).
Editing Match Results
Match results are edited by first modifying the underlying set scores. To edit the results of a
match, follow these steps.
1. Select the desired match from the Match History (see Match History) for the team in
question.
2. Select the set to be edited.
3. Tap Edit in the upper-right.
4. Edit the score values as necessary.
5. Tap Save in the upper-right.
The win-loss result for the set will automatically be updated once the score change is saved.
The match result and overall team record will also automatically be updated to reflect the
new set result.
Deleting a Match
To delete a previously recorded match, choose the match in question from the Matches
screen, then tap Match Info. From there, tap the Edit button in the upper-right, then tap the
Delete button. The match, and all associated stats data, will be permanently deleted.
Recording a Match
A stats recording session is based on a Match, which in return has one or more Sets.
Starting a Match
On the Matches screen, tap the + button to begin a new Match. Once all information has
13
been entered, tap Start.
Score Format
Before starting the match, you will need to choose the scoring format to be used. There are
a variety of scoring options to choose from. This information cannot be changed once the
match has been started.
Scrimmage
You can optionally mark a match as a scrimmage. You can then use the Analyze Include
Scrimmages option in Settings (see Include Scrimmages) to determine whether or not
scrimmages should be included in your cumulative stats.
Optional Info
In addition to the score format, you can optionally add more information about the match.
This information gives you the ability to analyze your stats in advanced ways (by Season, by
Tournament, etc.).
TIP: If you forget to provide an optional field when starting the match, you can always
add the information later (see Editing Match Info).
Season
Groups matches into the same season (e.g., “2009-2010”, “Fall ‘09”).
Tournament Groups matches by tournament (e.g., “Junior Olympics”, “League Finals”).
Opponent
Specifies the name of the opposing team.
Location
Specifies the name of the venue where a match is played.
Home/Away Is this a home or away match, or at a neutral site?
Statistician
Name of the person taking stats. Useful for tracking consistency between
statisticians.
Starting a Set
Once a match has been started (see Starting a Match), you then start an individual set within
that match. On the New Set screen, you first need to enter a few pieces of required
information. Once all information has been entered, tap Start to begin recording.
14
Lineup Info
Start with
blank lineup
You can choose to start a set with no lineup defined. You can then fill-in
players manually at any point during the match (see Choosing / Replacing
Players).
Lineup
Choose from your list of existing lineup templates, create a new one (see
Creating a Lineup), or edit an existing one.
TIP: The fastest way to start a set is to use a pre-created lineup template. These
templates are entirely optional but save time if your team frequently uses the same, or
similar, lineups.
Other Info
Serving
Is your team serving first or receiving first? The serve or receive option
will automatically alternate between sets.
Rotation
What rotation is your team starting in? The rotation will default to 1 if you
are serving first, and 6 if you are receiving first. Rotations typically start
with rotation 1 in the right-back (RB) and rotate counter-clockwise
around the court.
Side
(Optional) Is the team starting on the left/far side of the court or on the
right/near side? This determines the layout of the scoreboard only and
does not affect stats. The side will automatically alternate between sets.
Start Score
The starting score for both teams in the set. Useful for leagues and
tournaments that start at 4 or 6 points when time is limited.
Ending a Set
A set will automatically end when one team has reached the winning score based on the
chosen score format (see Score Format). You will be prompted to confirm the end of the set.
Ending a Match
A match will automatically end when one team has won the minimum number of sets
required to win the match as defined by the the chosen score format (see Score Format).
You will be prompted to confirm the end of the match.
15
Stopping a Match
You can prematurely stop a match at any time by tapping the Stop button. If you are
currently in the stats recording interface, you will need to first pause recording (see Pause /
Resume Recording) in order to access the Stop button.
If you stop a match while a set is in-progress, you will be given the choice to stop just that
set or to stop the entire match. Stopping a set or match that has not been completed will
cause that set/match, and all associated stats data, to be permanently deleted.
Past / Future Matches
By changing the Start Time of a match, you can enter data for a match from the past or
create matches for the future.
Entering Past Matches
You may find yourself needing to enter data for a match from the past that was recorded on
paper or from another source. To do that, create a new match, set the Start Time to a time in
the past, and then choose the correct Score Format. You will be asked to confirm the time,
then tap Save.
To enter data for the past match, select it in the match history, then edit the scores for each
set. Delete any sets that were not played and edit the raw stats for each player (see Raw
Stats).
TIP: When recording matches from video, record the match like normal, as if you were
recording in real-time, then edit the match Start Time afterwards.
Creating Future Matches
You can easily create an entry for a match before it occurs. This can be helpful for planning
your season ahead of time, or for entering information in advance so that there is less to do
at game time.
To create a match in the future, simply set the Start Time to a future time. You will be asked
to confirm the time, then tap Save. When you are ready to record the match, select it from
16
the match history, tap Start, then record the match like normal.
Event Log
You can view the entire event log for any recorded, or in-progress, set to get a complete
“play-by-play” history of the action.
Viewing Events
To view an event log, follow these steps.
1. Select the desired match from the Match History (see Match History) for the team in
question.
2. Select the set number in question from the Match screen.
3. Tap Event Log on the Set screen.
You will then see the complete event history for the selected set. Each event entry will
include a time offset from the start of the set, a description of the event, and the score at the
time of the event. Events resulting in a score change will be highlighted in blue.
Sorting Events
You can sort events in the event log by time. Tap Newest First to sort events in descending
order with the most recent event at the top. Tap Oldest First to sort events in ascending
order with the first event of the set at the top. Events will be sorted newest first by default
while a set is in-progress.
Outputting Events
You can output an entire event log in PDF, HTML, or CSV format for external viewing or
printing. An event log can be output either via email or to file based on the current Output
value in Settings (see Output).
Tap the action button
in the upper-right, then choose the desired format in order to output
an event log. Refer to the instructions for outputting stat reports (see Outputting Stats) for
more information on each of the output formats.
17

MultiStat
The MultiStat feature allows you to use multiple statisticians to record stats for the same
match and then merge the data onto a single device.
When using MultiStat, one device is always the Master device and is the official source of
record for scoring, rotations, substitutions, and timeouts. Any number of Slave devices can
then be used to record player stats and merge them with the master device.
TIP: Use the Categories setting (see Categories) to disable stat categories not being
recorded on a slave device. This can help simplify the recording interface.
To merge devices, the matches on all slave devices must be started within five minutes of
the master device, and the number of recorded sets must be equal. To merge, follow these
steps.
1. On the slave device, select the desired match from the Match History (see Match
History).
2. Tap the action button
in the upper-right.
3. Output the match data to the MultiStat format (see Output via Email or Output to

Social Media
NOTE: Internet connection is required.
iStatVball supports two types of Social Media, Twitter and Facebook. These are accessed
from starting a set (Starting a Set) or from the match history (see Match History).
For each option, selecting the button will present a Tweet or Facebook post dialog with
pre-filled text. This pre-filled text is based on where you are in the match. There are currently
5 pre-filled reponses:
• Before a match begins
• Match is in progress
• Match is in progress (timeout called)
• End of a set
• End of a match
WARNING: (Facebook only) When the official Facebook app is installed on your
device, Facebook policy does not allow pre-filled posts. To enable this, you will have
to remove the Facebook app from your device and either use a third-party Facebook
21
app or use Safari.

Recording Stats
• General Flow
• Launching the Interface
• Interface Views
• Player Area
• Scoreboard
• Libero Tracking
• ScoreCam Remote
• Editing Options
General Flow
Recording stats is easy once you have a feel for the general flow of events. Here are the
steps you will find yourself repeating often.
1. Launch the stats recording interface (see Launching the Interface).
2. Player performs a stat-able action, enter stat for that player (see Entering a Stat).
3. Repeat step 2 until the rally ends.
4. Mark the end of a rally by updating the score (see Updating the Score).
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until the set is over.
Launching the Interface
To begin recording stats, first start a new recording session (see Recording a Match). You
will then find yourself within the stats recording interface. Here you have useful information
at your fingertips, and you can quickly and easily enter stats for your team.
Interface Views
iStatVball supports a variety of ways to view the stat recording interface so that you can
choose the view that allows you to record stats most efficiently.
23
Orientations
The stat recording interface automatically changes as your rotate your iPad. Choose the
orientation that best fits how you like to hold the device.
Landscape
Hold the iPad horizontally to view the interface in Landscape mode. This is the
recommended orientation for the app.
Portrait
Hold the iPad vertically to view the interface in Portrait mode.
TIP: To prevent the iPad from changing orientations, use the orientation lock button
inside the iOS task bar. With iOS 4.3 or newer, you can use the switch on the side of
the iPad to lock orientation (can be enabled from within iOS Settings).
Layouts
Each stat interface orientation supports two views. The layout can be selected in the Select
View area in the upper-right corner of the interface. Choose the view that makes recording
stats most efficient for you.
List View
List view is the classic layout from previous versions of iStatVball. Players are displayed in a
vertical list in service order. The position of each player in the list does not change as stats
are being recorded.
24
Court View
Court view displays the players as they are physically positioned on the court. The players
are still in service order, as in List View. There are two “rows” of players, three in the front
row and three in the back row. The front row is closest to the top of the screen. Players will
rotate around the court in typical clockwise fashion with the server always located in the
right-back (RB).
TIP: If you like the Court View but do not want the players rotating around the screen,
go to Settings and turn off the Court View Rotates option.
Player Area
The Player Area shows all of the players in your currently selected lineup. The players will
be listed in service order. For each player, you will see their name, uniform number, and
position. You will also see their picture, if you provided one. This information helps you
quickly locate the player during the heat of the match.
The appearance of the player area will depend on your currently selected view (see
Interface Views).
25
Entering a Stat
When a player performs a stat-able action, simply tap the stat you wish to record (“Hitting
KILL”, “Serving ERR”, etc.) in the area corresponding to that player. Stat events are grouped
by category and are color-coded. A summary of the most recent stat entry is always
displayed below the Undo button.
TIP: Stat events such as “Hitting KILL” will automatically record both the kill and the
attempt, so there is no need to enter both separately.
TIP: Stat buttons that are not currently applicable (e.g., blocking for back row players,
serving for players other than the current server, etc.) can be automatically disabled in
order to help you quickly focus on only the relevant stat buttons. To use this feature,
turn on the Auto Focus option under Settings.
Adding / Replacing a Player
If you started with a blank lineup, or have empty spaces in your lineup template, you can add
players at any time during a set. To add a player, double-tap on the area of the rotation at
which the player will be added, then choose a new player from the displayed list. You can
also replace existing players on the court in this same way. These changes do not count as
substitutions and do not affect your pre-created lineup templates.
TIP: Use the Add / Replace feature if you started with a blank lineup, have less than
six players in the lineup, or need to workaround a mistake in the lineup.
Making a Substitution
When a player substitutes out of the game, tap the SUB button for that player. You will see a
list of all players on the roster that are not currently in the game. Illegal substitutions will be
highlighted in red, and the most likely substitution (a player previously in at that rotation) will
be highlighted in green.
26
Simply tap the player you wish to substitute into the game. You will be warned if you try to
make an illegal substitution or if you are out of substitutions.
Player Position
You can define, or change, the position a player is currently playing by tapping the position
button at any time and choosing from the displayed list of positions (“OH1”, “MB2”, etc.).
Player positions are optional but can be useful for the statistician. If no position is defined,
the button will be labeled “?”.
Player positions are abbreviated as follows:
• OH- Outside Hitter (numbered 1 and 2)
• MB- Middle Blocker (numbered 1, 2, and 3)
• S- Setter (only one, or numbered 1 and 2)
• OPP- Opposite / Right-Side Hitter
• DS- Defensive Specialist
• LIB- Libero
Other Information
There is other useful information displayed for each player in the Player Area.
Court Position
Badge indicating current position on the court (LF= Left-Front, MB= Middle-Back, etc.).
Badges are color-coded to indicate front row (green) and back row (red).
Rotation / Current Server
Each service rotation is indicated by a gray badge numbered 1-6. The current server is
indicated by a bright blue badge.
27
Scoreboard
The Scoreboard area appears at the top of the stat recording interface. This is where you go
to view and modify the state of the game.
Updating the Score
You need to mark the end of each rally by updating the score. When the rally ends, tap the
score area for the team that just earned the point. The score area will update to show the
current score for both teams. Your team’s score is below the 3-4 letter abbreviation you
chose for your team. The opposing team’s score is shown below “OPPONENT”.
TIP: To have the score automatically advance for point generating events such as
“Hitting KILL”, “Serving ACE”, “ERR”, etc., go to Settings and turn on the Auto
Advance Points option.
Timeouts
To record a timeout for one of the teams, simply tap the timeout area corresponding to the
team calling the timeout. The timeout area will update to show the number of timeouts
remaining for each team.
If the Timer option is turned on (see Timer), the timeouts remaining counter will be replaced
by a countdown timer during the timeout. Use the timer to quickly tell how much time you
have left in the timeout.
28
Undo
You can undo your recent actions at any point while recording stats. A short description of
the most recent action will be shown underneath the Undo button. Tap the Undo button to
undo that action. You can undo any number of actions, and you can undo any type of action
(substitutions, timeouts, points scored, etc.) You can even undo actions after restarting the
app.
Undo Rally
If the referee calls a replay, you may need to undo multiple stat events to get back in sync
with the game. To do this, long press (i.e., tap and hold) the Undo button to bring up the
Undo Rally prompt. Tap OK to undo all stat events from the last rally.
Undo Auto Set
If the Auto Set option is turned on (see Auto Set), there will be an Undo Auto Set button
available. It will become enabled any time that a Setting event (attempt or assist) is
automatically recorded. Tap this button to quickly override the automatic set when an
overpass occurs.
Pause / Resume Recording
If you need to temporarily exit the stat recording interface during a set, tap the Pause button.
You will be returned to the Set screen. From there, you can stop the match (see Stopping a
Match) or tap Resume to return to the stat recording interface.
Ending a Set
You will automatically be notified when one of the teams has won the set as determined by
their score. Tap OK to end the set. You will be returned to the Set screen where you can
then start the next set. If the match is also over, you will be returned to the Match History
29
screen.
TIP: You can analyze stats while a match is still in-progress. Go to the Analyze tab,
select your team, and then tap Current Match. This is a powerful feature for use during
timeouts and in-between sets.
Real-Time Stat Summary
You can view a summary of stats for the current match from directly within the stat recording
interface (Pro). Tap the calculator button at any time after the first point is scored to view
current stats. You can toggle between viewing stats for just the current set or for the entire
match. Note that there may be a slight delay before the information appears.
Alternatively, you can view the full list of stat categories in real-time during the match from
within the Analyze area (Real-Time Analysis).
Other Information
There is a variety of other useful information displayed in the Scoreboard area.
Set Number
Current set number within the match.
Possession Arrow
Points to the team currently serving.
Set Score
Number of sets won within the match for each team.
30
Rotation
The rotation number (1-6) of the current server. The service order typically starts with
rotation 1 serving first in the right-back (RB). Service order rotates counter-clockwise around
the court.
Subs
Number of substitutions remaining.
Save Lineup
You can quickly create a team lineup based on the current game participants (Pro). Tap the
lineup button at any time and you will be prompted to update the current lineup or create a
new lineup based on the current partipants. Once the lineup is saved, you can edit the lineup
from the Teams area (see Lineups or Editing a Lineup for more information).
Libero Tracking
The stat recording interface supports full libero tracking, allowing you to enter stats for the
libero and accurately track their playing time. In order to track libero stats, you will need to
swap the libero in and out of the game.
Swapping-In the Libero
When the libero enters the game, tap the green SWAP button in the Libero Area in the
upper-left corner of the interface. Select one of the eligible back row players to be swapped
with the libero. The libero will be displayed in the player area with a distinctly colored
background. The swapped player will then be displayed in the Libero Area to indicate that
they are being represented by the libero on the court.
31
Swapping-Out the Libero
The libero will automatically be swapped out when they reach the front row. You can
manually swap the libero out at any time by tapping the red SWAP button in the Libero Area.
Libero swaps do not count as substitutions.
Replacing the Libero
A new libero can be selected by double-tapping within the Libero Area and choosing from
the list of eligible replacement players. The libero can not be replaced while on the court,
you must swap them back to the Libero Area before making the replacement.
Two Liberos
If the Settings Two Liberos option is enabled (see Two Liberos), the recording interface will
contain two Libero Areas. These areas provide full support for the USAV two libero rules.
Tap the Libero Area button to flip back and forth between the two areas labeled “A” and “B”.
Swapping and replacing liberos behaves the same as with a single Libero Area.
ScoreCam Remote
The ScoreCam Remote interface allows for controlling the ScoreCam video camera app
which is installed on a separate device. The interface includes connecting to ScoreCam,
starting, pausing and resuming a recording remotely, as well as displaying a syncronized
recording time label.
This interface shares the same space as Layouts and is enabled from the ScoreCam
Remote Settings. When enabled, tap the heading area to flip back and forth between
ScoreCam Remote and Layouts.
32
Connecting to ScoreCam
To connect to the ScoreCam app, tap in the area below the heading. Then, on the separate
device, open the ScoreCam app and select the button to "Connect to Remote". After the
appropriate device is selected a connection will be established.
Start Recording
Once a connection has been established you can now begin a video recording by selecting
the start button from the ScoreCam interface.
Pause/Resume Recording
After a video recording has started, you can pause and resume the recording by selecting
the applicable button.
Stop (Save) Recording
To Stop and save a ScoreCam video recording, select the stop button. If you have elected to
be prompted on a save (see ScoreCam Settings) an alert view will be shown which will allow
you to cancel this action.
Editing Options
A number of options are available in the Scoreboard area (see Scoreboard) for editing the
current recording state. These options are accessible by performing a long press (i.e., tap
and hold) on a specific location within the Scoreboard area.
End Set
Normally the set being recorded will automatically end based on the score format chosen for
the match. To manually end the set early, long press the Pause button (see Pause / Resume
33
Recording). All stats up to that point will be saved.
Change Score Format
To change the score format after a match has started, long press on a set score (see Set
Score) to bring up a list of applicable score formats. Only formats that are valid for the
current state of the match will be listed. Choose a score format from the list to make the
change.
Override Values
You can manually override the current values for many of the recording options in the
Scoreboard area. This can be useful if the recording state becomes out of sync with the
actual state of events on the court.
WARNING: Edit options strictly override their value, they do not update stats.
Therefore, stat accuracy may be affected. You should use Undo or Undo Rally instead
whenever possible.
Score
To override the score for a team, long press on the score digits (see Updating the Score) for
that team and then select a new value.
Rotation
To override the current rotation, long press on the rotation number (see Rotation) and then
select a new value.
Possession
To override the current possession direction, long press in the area of the possession arrows
(see Possession Arrow). Tap 'OK' to switch possession to the opposite team.
Side of Court
To override the side of court (“Left/Far Side” or “Right/Near Side”) for each team, long press
on one of the team name abbreviations. Tap 'OK' to switch each team to the opposite side of
the court.
34
Timeouts Remaining
To manually edit the number of timeouts remaining for a team, long press on the timeout
number (see Timeouts) for that team and then select a new value.
Substitutions Remaining
To manually edit the number of substitutions remaining for your team, long press on the
substitutions number (see Subs) and then select a new value.
35
Settings
You can use the Settings tab to configure preferences and run utilities for iStatVball.
• Preferences
• iCloud Backup / Restore
• Import / Export
• Video
• Utilities
• Upgrade
• Misc.
Preferences
Preferences allow you to set the default values for various options that affect application
functionality.
General
Player Names
Sort Order
Determines how player names are sorted in the roster, stats analysis tables, etc. Sorting can
be by first name, last name, or uniform number.
Display
Determines how player names are displayed throughout the application. Either as “First
Last” or “Last, First”. Note that this is independent of the sort order.
TIP: Choose the sort order and display type that make it easiest for you to quickly find
players in your roster and lineups.
36
Output
Export
Determines whether all export operations throughout the app should occur via email using
the standard email client or to a file for use with iTunes File Sharing.
Print Scale
Determines how PDF reports are scaled to the page for printing. The Large size is easier to
read, while the Small size saves paper.
Misc.
Units
Determines whether player height and other measurements are shown in US or Metric units.
Hide Sample Team
Optionally hides the Sample Team and all associated data. The data can be re-shown by
unchecking this option.
Record
Auto Focus
Enabled
Determines whether or not the Auto Focus feature is enabled. Auto Focus helps improve
stat recording speed and accuracy by focusing your attention on only the stat buttons that
are currently applicable. Buttons that are not applicable will be temporarily disabled. For
example, serving buttons disable for players other than the current server, blocking buttons
disable for players in the backrow, etc.
TIP: If you need to temporarily override Auto Focus for a particular player, you can
double-tap in the stat button area of that player.
37
Passing Serve Receive Only
Determines whether or not passing stat buttons are only enabled on serve receive. If so,
they will be disabled during rallies and when your team has possession. Leave this option off
if you like to stat free ball digs as passes. Only applicable if Auto Focus is enabled.
Pass-0 Ends Rally
Determines whether or not a 0-rated pass ends the rally. You can turn this option off if you
prefer to stat overpasses as a “0”. In this case, you must manually award the point.
Show Last Tap
If enabled, the last stat button tapped will always be indicated (darkened) so that you can
quickly verify your last entry. Note that the previous stat event is also always visible below
the Undo button (see Undo).
Rotation
Court View Rotates
When using the Court View, either in landscape or portrait mode, should players rotate
around the screen as they do on the court? If not, the rotation behavior will remain the same
as the List View, which is always in service order.
Triple Ball
Enables support for the specialized triple ball rotation format. Only applicable for leagues
using the triple ball rules.
Smart Locations
Enabled
Attempts to place players in their natural location on the court based on position (e.g., front
row outside hitter at left-front, setter at right-back, etc.) Only applicable if Court View Rotates
is enabled.
Certain restrictions apply to the use of the Smart Locations option:
• You cannot start with a blank lineup.
38
• All six players must be defined in the lineup.
• Each player must have a lineup position defined.
• There must be no more than two players of the same position type.
• Matching players must be opposite each other in the lineup (e.g., OH1 and OH2, S
and OPP).
• A Defensive Specialist (DS) must not be in the starting lineup.
WARNING: Smart Locations is an experimental feature and may not work with all
lineup patterns. If you experience issues with your lineup, please contact iStatVball
support (see Support).
Backrow
Determines how players should be arranged in the backrow when the libero is not on the
court. Also indicates the order when the Libero is in the game. Only applicable if Smart
Locations is enabled.
Location
Determines whether the libero should be placed at left-back, middle-back or right-back. Only
applicable if Smart Locations is enabled.
NOTE: The placement of other two backrow players is determined from the 'Backrow'
setting. For example, if the backrow pattern (or order) is 'S/OPP-MB-OH' and the Libero
Location is set to 'Middle-back' and then the Libero is swapped in for the OH, the backrow
will be: S/OPP-LIB-MB.
Libero
Two Liberos
Determines whether or not USAV two libero rules are enabled. If enabled, lineups will
include two libero slots, and the recording interface will include two Libero Areas (see Two
Liberos).
Libero Can Serve
Determines whether or not the libero is allowed to serve.
39
Automated
Auto Set
Determines the level of automation desired for recording setting stats. At least one setter
must be defined in the lineup. If two setters are defined, the backrow setter will be used by
Auto Set.
• OFF- No automation is enabled. You must manually enter all setting attempts and
assists.
• Semi Auto- You are responsible for entering the setting attempt, but assists will be
automatically recorded if a kill occurs. This is true regardless of whether the setter, or
another player, set the ball.
• Full Auto- All set attempts and assists are automatically recorded. You are only
responsible for entering a set attempt if a player other than a setter sets the ball. In
this case, the attempt will automatically be converted to an assist as with Semi Auto.
If a kill occurs due to an overpass simply tap the Undo Auto Set button (see Undo
Auto Set).
Auto Advance Score
Determines whether or not points will automatically be advanced when recording stats for
point generating events. For example, “Serving ACE”, “Hitting KILL”, “Blocking BLK”,
“Passing 0”, and all “ERR” events.
Auto Switch Sides
Determines whether or not teams will automatically switch sides halfway through the last set
of an 'x sets to y' match.
Defaults
Scoring
Sets the default score format to be used when recording a new match. You can always
specify a different format for individual matches as needed.
40
Timeouts
Sets the maximum number of timeouts allowed per set.
Subs
Sets the maximum number of substitutions allowed per set.
Categories
Enabled
Allows stat button categories to be disabled if you do not need to record that category.
Disabling unused categories can simplify the recording interface.
Serve Format
Determines whether the Serving stat buttons use the traditional ATT-ACE-ERR format or a
0-4 server rating format. The 0-4 format can use a scale of either 0-1-2-3-4 or 4-3-2-1-0
depending on your preference.
With the 0-4 scale, 0 is an ace (serve caused a zero passing for opponent), 1-3 correspond
to the opponent's passer ratings of 1-3, and 4 is an error. With the 4-0 scale, 4 is an ace, 3-1
correspond to the opponent's passer ratings of 1-3, and 0 is an error.
Pass Format
Determines whether the Passing stat buttons use the traditional 0-1-2-3 format or a 0-4
passer rating format.
With 0-4 scale, 0 is always a passing error and directly results in a point for the opponent.
With 0-4 scale, 0 directly results in a point for the opponent only if 'Pass-0 Ends Rally' setting
is enabled. 1-3 or 1-4 correspond to the rating of the pass, with 1 being the lowest (e.g., an
overpass).
The 0-4 scale is only applicable if Serve Format is set to either 0-1-2-3-4 or 4-3-2-1-0.
41
Misc.
Timer
Optionally shows a countdown timer during timeouts indicating the time remaining in the
timeout. The value can be 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 75 seconds or OFF.
Analyze
Misc.
Include Scrimmages
Determines whether scrimmages should be included in cumulative stats. When creating a
match, you can optionally mark it as a scrimmage (see Scrimmage).
Show Empty Stats
Determines whether empty stats (those with NA values) should be shown or hidden in the
stats analysis tables.
Real-Time Auto Refresh
Determines whether stat calculations will automatically be refreshed if viewing stats for a
match or set currently in-progress.
Group Tournament By Day
When analyzing by tournament, should multi-day tournaments be grouped by day? This
allows separate analysis for each day of the tournament (Pro) but may be incompatible with
international date formats.
Summary Report
42
Include Stats
Allows stat categories to be enabled/disabled for overall summary reports (see Summary
Report and Real-Time Analysis).

Backup
When iCloud is enabled, team files are backed up automatically at the following times:
• First time iStatVball is launched in Version 2.12.2 or higher
• After each match is recorded
• When a new team is added
• After an Import/Merge
You can also manually backup data for any team to iCloud by first selecting the team you
wish to save and then tap Backup Team.
Note: A maximum of 15 files per team are stored in iCloud with oldest removed first.
43
Restore
You can restore or merge files using iCloud. If the team being restored already exists, you
will be asked whether you would like to replace the existing team or merge the two sets of
data. If you choose to merge data, no existing data will be altered; only new data from the
team being imported will be added to the existing team.
You can also remove a file from iCloud. This is a permanent action and will no longer be
available from any device you have connected to the iCloud account.
File Restore or Delete
1. Select a team from the Choose Team menu
2. Select a file from the Choose File list
3. Tap Restore File to import/merge the selected file.
4. Tap Delete File to remove the file permanently from iCloud.
Import / Export
The Import and Export functionality allows you to export all of your team data including
roster, lineups, images, and raw stats as an iStatVball (ISV) file. Using this file, you can
backup your data independent of iTunes. You can also use this feature to transfer data
between devices if you own more than one device, upgrade devices, or have users with their
own device taking stats for you.
Note: ISV files are an internal format used only by iStatVball. To send your stats in a
human-readable format, see Outputting Stats.
WARNING: Do not risk losing all of your hard earned stats! Backup your data
regularly using the Export feature. You should not rely on iTunes or iCloud for
backing-up stats.
Import
You can import ISV data files using either email or iTunes File Sharing. If the team being
imported already exists, you will be asked whether you would like to replace the existing
team or merge the two sets of data. If you choose to merge data, no existing data will be
44
altered; only new data from the team being imported will be added to the existing team.
iTunes Import
1. Use the File Sharing utility within iTunes under “Apps” to move ISV files onto your
device.
2. From within iStatVball, tap Import.
3. Tap the name of the file you wish to import.
Export
You can export data for any team to an ISV file. This file can be used to backup your data or
transfer it to other devices. To export data, tap Export then select the team you wish to
export.
You can export an ISV either via email or to a file as determined by the current Export
setting (see Export).
Export via Email
1. Tap Export via Email.
2. You will be presented with the standard email interface. Attached to the email will be
an ISV file containing your data.
3. Tap the To: field to choose one or more email recipients.
4. Tap Send.
Export to File
1. Tap Export to File.
2. Use the File Sharing utility within iTunes under “Apps” to move the ISV file onto your
computer.

Teams
The Teams tab is where you go to manage your teams, rosters, and lineups. On the Teams
screen, you will see a list of all your current teams. A team named “Sample Team” is always
available to use as a reference.

• Rosters and Players
• Lineups
Teams
Viewing Existing Teams
From the Teams screen, simply tap the team you wish to view. You can then choose to view
the team’s information including its name and coaches as well as its roster and lineups.
Creating a Team
From the Teams screen, tap the + button to add a new team, and then enter all required
information. Your roster and lineups can be added now or at a later time. When you are
finished entering information, tap the Save button to save the team.
TIP: Use the “Copy From” feature to base your new team on an existing team such as
the Sample Team. This is a great way to get up-and-running quickly.
Picture
You can optionally assign a picture to the team. The picture can be from your existing photo
album or taken with the camera (supported devices only).
Team Name
A team’s name consists of three required parts. First, the team’s School or Club (e.g.,
“Springfield High”, “Club Spikers”). Second, the name of the individual team itself (e.g.,
“Varsity”, “Warriors”, “14-1”). This allows you to easily group multiple teams within the same
50
organization. Last, a 3-4 character team abbreviation (e.g., “SHS”, “CLUB”) to be used on
the stats scoreboard.
Coaches
You can optionally specify a coach and assistant coach for the team.
Editing a Team
From The Teams screen, tap the team you wish to edit, select the Team Info menu item,
then tap the Edit button to edit any of the general information fields.
If you want to delete the team, tap the Delete button while in edit mode on the Team Info
screen. If you delete a team, all associated stats data will be lost.
Rosters and Players
Viewing a Roster / Player
From the Team screen, tap the Roster menu item to view the roster. You can then tap any
player in the roster to view that player’s information.
Creating a Roster / Player
A new team will automatically start with a blank roster. In order to add a player to the roster,
tap the + button on the Roster screen, and then enter all required information.
Picture
You can optionally assign a picture to the player. The picture can be from your existing
photo album or taken with the camera (supported devices only).
WARNING: Importing very large (high resolution) photos may cause the app to crash.
If this happens, save your pictures to a smaller file size before importing.
51
Player Name
A player’s name consists of three parts. First name (required), last name (required), and
nickname (optional). A player’s name must be unique on the roster.
Number
All players require a uniform number, which must be unique on the roster.
Positions
A player can optionally be assigned one or more positions that they play. This value is used
for display purposes only and does not affect stats. Position abbreviations are as follows:
• OH- Outside Hitter
• MB- Middle Blocker
• S- Setter
• OPP- Opposite / Right-Side Hitter
• DS- Defensive Specialist
• LIB- Libero
Height
A player can optionally have a height, which is used for display purposes only.
Editing a Roster / Player
To edit a roster, tap the player on the Roster that you wish to edit, and then tap the Edit
button. You can then edit any of the information fields.
To delete a player, tap the Delete button while in edit mode. Deleting a player will remove
them from the roster but will not delete any previously recorded stats for that player. You
cannot delete the roster itself.
Lineups
52
Viewing a Lineup
From the Team screen, tap the Lineups menu item and then tap the lineup you wish to view.
TIP: Lineups are templates for you to use to quickly fill-in your players when recording
stats. They save time but are not required.
Creating a Lineup
From the Lineups screen, tap the + button, and then enter all required information. You can
use the “Copy From” feature to quickly base your new lineup on an existing one.
Pro Feature: You can also create lineups while recording stats. See the Save Lineup feature
for more information.
Picture
You can optionally assign a picture to the lineup. The picture can be from your existing photo
album or taken with the camera (supported devices only).
Name
A lineup has a name (required) and a brief description (optional).
Position and Player for each Rotation
Tap the row for the rotation you wish to edit and then choose a player for that rotation. You
can optionally specify the player's position by tapping the position button (initially labeled
“?”). Leave the position and player blank if you want to keep the slot empty in your lineup
template.
The last row of the table is always used for the libero position. If the Settings Two Liberos
option is enabled (see Two Liberos), there will be two dedicated libero table rows.
TIP: Lineups do not need all six players. If you have lineups that only vary by a player
or two, you can leave those rotations blank and fill them in during the match.
53
Editing a Lineup
From the Lineups screen, tap the lineup you wish to edit, and then tap the Edit button. You
can then edit any of the information fields.
To delete a lineup, tap the Delete button while in edit mode. Only the lineup itself will be
