I-Like-to-Move

I like to Move it, Move it!
The Student Council is sponsoring a month long healthy lifestyle initiative at Russell. The
purpose of the initiative is self-awareness of how much physical activity one gets in a day, and to
promote a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. Operation “I Like to Move it, Move it”
will begin Monday, April 13th and end May 15th. Student Council determined this was a great time to
implement the initiative to help balance the increased time in front of computers during testing month.
Parents can join in the fun, too. If you decide to participate with your child, your activity time
will go toward helping the Russell staff in the competition with the kids (there are only 35 of us). If you’d
like to participate, you can find extra time logs on the Russell website.
We’re excited to get started!

In school Activities:






Brain breaks – 2-4 minute classroom breaks designed to get the kids’ moving and blood flowing
Fill the Racks, May 6th – Bike to School Day. More info to come.
4th Grade Swimming at the University of Idaho
Outdoor Field Trips
Student council led recess jog/walk every Thursday during lunch recess.
Competition with adults. Parents can join in the fun!
Home Activities:




Keep track of your daily physical activity in minutes on the chart on the back of this letter.
Each week on Thursday night or Friday morning, add up your minutes of activity for the week
and record it on one of the Activity coupons and bring it to school. Make sure your parent signs it.
Completed coupons will be entered in a weekly raffle drawing.
If your parents are participating, make sure to bring their activity coupon, too.
If you really want to see how much exercise you get during this time, try keeping a journal of all
the activities you do during the month.
