CFMotorsportPilotBraydenElliotthasmadevastimprovementthisweekend,despitecontendingwithbadluckinbothqualifyingand
thesecondportionofthe100-mileenduranceraceonSundayafternoon,infrontofaWorldSuperbikecrowd.
Withonlyone30-minutepracticesessionlateonFridayafternoonitwasstraightintoqualifyingfortheYamahaR1rider.Despite
showingcontinuousimprovementinpacethroughoutqualifying,atechnicalmalfunctionhaltedhissessionshortleavinghimto settle
for24th positionforthestartofthe100-milerace.
KickingthefirstlegoftheenduranceraceoffwithaflyingstartElliottfoughtahard18lapracetofinishinafinalpositionof14th,
redeeminghimselftenspotsbeforetheconclusionoftherace.
Afterashort10-minutebreakandatyrechange,thesecondlegoftheracelookedtobejustaspromisingstartingfrom14th position
onthegrid.Workinghiswaythroughouttheracetocontestfor10th positionElliotthadgreatformputtinginconsistentlylowlaptimes
andredeemingovertwosecondsonthegroupinfront,howeveracollisionatturnonewithhisbattlingpartnerendedhisraceshort
withonly5lapstogo.
“Itissuchadisappointingendtowhathasbeenanextremelytoughweekend,”Elliottstarted.
“OnFridaywemadealotofchangestothebike,movingforwardonwhatwethoughtwouldworkafterthefirstroundearlierthis year.
However,Ididn’thaveenoughfeelinginthebikesowewentbacktowherewefinishedthefirstround.
“IfeltreallygoodinqualifyingandhalfwaythroughthesessionIpitforfreshtyrestotryandsetanevenfastertime.HeadingoutIfelt
reallycomfortableandputmyselfinagreatpositiontoputinsomefastlapsbutunfortunatelyatechnicalissuehaltedmysessionwith
tenminutesstillremaining,Iwasgutted!
“HeadingintotheraceIknewthatIhadalotofworktodobutwasconfidentthatifIcouldredeemafewpositionsgoingintothefirst
coupleofcorners,andgetawaywiththefirstgroupIcouldpushformorepositions.Imademywayuptofourteenthandwaspushing
atonehundredpercentthewholerace.
“ThesecondlegoftheraceIhadalotmoreconfidenceandtriedtotreatitasafreshrace.Startingfromfourteenthgavemeareal
boostasIknewIhadthepacetofightforatoptenposition.Ipulledinovertwosecondstothebunchinfrontandbegantobattlefor
tenth,butunfortunatelywithfivelapstogoanaccidentatturnoneendedmyraceshort.
“IamabsolutelyguttedformyselfandthewholeCFMotorsportteam,wehavebeenmakinggreatleapsforwardwiththebikeandthe
teamandmyselfareworkingreallyhardtogetagreatsetupforeachandeveryround.
“AlthoughIamdisappointedwiththeconclusionofmyraceIamtakingthepositivesoutoftheexperience.Ihavenowshownatthe
lasttworoundsthatdespitemymisfortuneIhavethepacetorunwiththetoptenandIamhappywithmyachievementsinthe first
legoftherace.
“Iwillcontinuetoremainpositiveandembraceeveryexperience.ThenextroundwewillpushevenharderandIwillcontinue to work
onmyself,myfitnessandmymentalpreparation!”heconcluded.
