1st Autumn Term Newsletter

Netball
On Tuesday 27th September, seven Year 9 girls
represented the school in a netball
tournament at Kelvin Hall. They competed
against three other schools: St Marys College,
Sirius North and Kelvin Hall.
Newsletter—Autumn Term 1 2016
The girls tried their best but unfortunately
they did not win any of their matches.
Nevertheless, their enthusiasm in each of the
matches was very high. This meant that they
could achieve their goal of at least getting one
shot in the net. This was exceeded because
they managed to get two shots into the net.
Also, each girl developed their skills by
observing the girls they played against. Next
time the girls hope to improve their skills in a
game situation.
Netball
These are the girls who represented the
school: Sali Touré, Hayley Pow, Demi Cone,
Courtney Underwood, Blaze Jessop, Savanna
Cartledge and Benita Petrauskaite.
The 7 girls that went had a tough time
actually getting into the game, but as the
game went on, the improvement was visible.
A Music visit to Hull University
Tuesday 20th September was the day a team
of 7 and Miss Lidster travelled to Kelvin to
play several netball matches. At first, the
team didn’t have a great start but then they
found their stride.
The team included: Hayley Pow, Molly Fisher,
Demi Cone (captain), Dannielle Walsh, Sali
Toure, Benita Petrauskaite and Savanna
Cartledge. The team was lead by Miss Lidster.
The first match was against Winifred Holtby
Academy. It was a good game even though
we lost by a serious amount of points.
The second match was better but not by
much: St Mary’s team B had beaten us, but
we still went on.
On Friday 9th September the Vocal Chords group,
and students that have excelled in music, went on
an educational visit to the University Of Hull. The
students were accompanied to the University by
two teachers Miss Butcher and also Mr Morell.
On this visit we got to listen to Shakespeare’s
works in the form of songs. We also got to take
part in a workshop in which we created our own
version using Shakespeare’s 18th sonnet.
On our visit we started by seeing a musical
production of Shakespearean works. There were
examples of Classical music but there were also
some examples of Jazz music. After the
performance we learnt how to create a song and
performed our music with the piano as our
melody in the background.
This experience was beneficial to us because it
not only helped our education in music but also
our understanding of Shakespearean sonnets and
to support us in English. It also taught us how to
write a song considering every day sounds. It had
increased our confidence when singing in front of
people.
For the final event, we were up against Kelvin
Hall’s team B and we did a better job at this
match than the other two games. We beat
Kelvin 5-3 which lifted the team’s spirits up.
Healthy eating advice
What the body needs.
The body needs a balanced diet including
carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, minerals
and fibre. These are what make up a balanced
diet.
We need carbohydrates for energy and when
we eat something with carbohydrate in it, it
converts into glucose which fuels cells such as
the brain and also muscles.
Fats help our bodies by giving energy to
support cell growth and protects our organs.
Protein is useful because it helps our hair stay
strong and our nails. It also helps build and
repair the tissues inside us.
We need minerals to help our body develop
and stay healthy.
We need fibre because it aids the digestive
system.
A recipe to help you keep healthy is a
‘Greek-style roast fish’. It takes half an hour to
make and it is easy and really healthy. All you
need to make this is white fish fillets, or a
whole fish, some garlic tomatoes and herbs
and roast it in the oven for a nutritious and
delicious dinner.

Overall, the group made a fantastic effort; we
all put one-hundred and ten percent into
each match.

Year 10 Saturday School
Archbishop Sentamu Vs the Boulevard
Academy
At their last Saturday school session on
September 24th, English Literature
students spent some time researching
theatre posters of the 1930s and 40s.
They also explored typical language of
the time and used their findings to
create a poster for the play they are
currently studying, J.B. Priestly’s An
Inspector Calls. William Shay conjured
up exactly the spirit of the times with
his design.
The Boulevard Academy football team
recently played against Archbishop
Sentamu football team for an 11- a- side
match.
The game started and the teams were
equally matched with skill, then The
Boulevard won an early corner. Krystian
whipped the ball in like Payet and Bukhari
used his head on it. 1-0 to The Boulevard
Academy!
However, after ten minutes, the opposition
struck back, smashing the ball like Peter
Crouch. It was as quick as lightning. It
struck the top centre of the goal. Half time
arrived and both teams were tired, yet
determined to win.
Archbishop Sentamu had the BFG on their
team! He was huge, taking all the balls that
travelled through the air. On the other
hand we didn’t give up. We fought for the
victory, but the victory was too far for us
because their defender lobbed all of our
players and passed to their striker. He ran
as fast as Iniesta, then took it to the inside
of the boot and smashed it with a semi
volley of the post and in, giving our goal
keeper a seizure!
It was 2-1 to them. We were trying to strike
back but they were playing tactically and
defensively. At the end of the game all The
Boulevard Academy players were
devastated: it was 2-1 to Sentamu.
Year 10 Netball Game
On the 29th of September, 7 year 10 girls participated
in a netball game. Even though we lost both games,
our determination drove us on. We played Sirius
Academy North and West, who both played very well.
The girls who played are: Caitlin, Myomie, Kamile,
Jessica, Larisa, Georgia and Ellis. Kindly, Kamile and
Ellis stepped up for players who couldn’t attend. We all
made note of our strengths and weaknesses for future
matches so we can improve and win.
We enjoyed the game and would to do it again.
Year 10 Netball
On Thursday 22nd of September, 7 girls from year 10 went to a netball tournament. We
played at St Mary’s Sports Academy. We would like to thank Miss Lidster for giving us the
opportunity to play.
In total we played two teams, St Marys Girls Group 1 and Kelvin Hall High School Group 1.
Although we lost both games, one game being 12-0 and one being 5-0, we all played to the
best of our abilities. Jessica Tandey said, “Despite us losing both games, we all enjoyed
playing for The Boulevard Academy.”
Well done to all girls who took part.
