School Improvement Plan Goal #4 This Plan also meets legislative requirements for the Elementary Reading Achievement Plan, Professional Development Plan, and Trustlands Plan. School Name: Mt. Loafer Elementary School Year: 2016-2017 Goal: Mt. Loafer will continue to ensure the opportunity to participate in the fine arts curriculum. Nebo Goal Connection: Arts • All elementary school teachers will integrate arts lessons with other core subject areas. Collaboration • All subjects/grades are organized into professional learning communities, focusing on answering the four essential questions while utilizing team norms, “I can” statements, curriculum maps, common assessments, data analysis, and SMART goals. Educator Effectiveness • 100 % of teachers will be formatively and/or summatively evaluated every year. Summative evaluations will be every three year. • 100% of teachers will monitor student progress through Student Learning Objectives. Communications and Community Relations • All of schools will communicate effectively through email, e-newsletter/newsletters, e-brochures/brochures, website, ParentLink, and Facebook/Twitter/Instagram. • The community will readily be able to access information found clearly on district and school websites and distributable materials (electronic or hard copy). Student Support Service • All schools have a system of student support with a team facilitating it, embedding behavior and academic support. Gifted and Talented • Explore best practices and programs to serve our G/T students. Action Plan(s): 1. We will continue to provide students many opportunities to participate in classroom, grade level, and district programs and activities. 2. We will coordinate with Salem Elementary to provide orchestra to interested 6th grade students. A participation fee will be charged to parents according to district policy. The orchestra will perform bi-annually for both school and parent groups. 3. Teachers will include fine arts into their yearly curriculum maps. 4. All students will continue to attend music class. Students will learn rhythm, beats, chords, harmony, and a variety of instruments; ukuleles, recorders, xylophones, and voice. 5. All students will continue to attend art class. Students will learn printmaking, drawing, painting, 3D design, art history, and the art elements and principles. Selected student artwork will be displayed in the Mt. Loafer Hall of Fame. 6. We will continue to provide students the opportunities to attend fine arts performances through assemblies and field trips. 7. We will continue to purchase musical instruments and art supplies for both music and art specialists. Measurements of Success: • Observe student participation in fine arts. • Observe teachers teaching lesson with fine arts integrated into the curriculum. • Track the percentage of grade level teams that have included fine arts in the curriculum maps. Supporting Professional Development Activities (if applicable): 1. We will continue to send the administration, special education teacher, regular education teachers, and specialists to attend professional development when offered. Those who attend will share relevant research with teachers and teams and empower teams to make important decisions that directly impact the quality of student learning. 2. Teachers will continually be supported by administration in areas of need based on requests from teachers or by administrative observations. 3. Teachers will continue to meet weekly with administration during collaboration to discuss and analyze student data and need. 4. We will continue to participate in off-site and on-site fine arts trainings provided by district fine arts specialists. 5. Collaboration between music and art specialists and classroom teachers to find naturally aligned objectives.
