Every child and young person has the right to have fun, be safe and free from harm during any activity they take part in. It is essential that parents and carers have a general awareness of good practice when selecting a sports activity for a young person to attend. This will ensure that they can enjoy sport within a safe and secure environment where they feel protected and empowered to make the most suitable choices. Providing children with positive sporting experiences means that they will be more likely to achieve their true potential. It is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that sports activities are SAFE and FUN! WHAT WE DO To help make sure we are keeping everyone within our sporting activities as safe as possible we carry out a number of checks and procedures, this ensures all our participants get the best value service. • All employees within leisure and sports development are required to have regular Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau checks and adequate references sought so we know our employees are safe to work with children and vulnerable adults. • All our employees are fully qualified in any activity they are leading, this helps to make sure they always know what they are doing. • All our sessions are run in open environments where parents and carers of children involved are encouraged to watch. • All our equipment is regularly checked and serviced to ensure your child is safe during any activity. PARENTS’ CODE • Make sure your child has the correct equipment and clothing appropriate for the activity. • Provide your child with a suitable drink. • Inform the coach or activity leader of any special requirements your child may have. • Inform them of any injury, illness or medical condition and make sure your child has the required medication to hand. • Provide staff involved with emergency contact details and inform them immediately should these change. • Be punctual when dropping off or collecting your child, and remember if they are under 8 years of age they must not be left at sessions alone. • If watching the session, always be encouraging and respect all participants, coaches, leaders and other parents. • Take an active interest in your child's participation and progress in the activity or sport. KIDS’ CODE • Listen to your coach or activity leader at all times and follow the rules which they have set out for you. • Always arrive prepared and on time for your activity. • Think about what you do and say to others in your activity, don’t swear or insult them. • Say NO to bullying! Bullying can mean things like name calling, hitting, stealing or damaging another persons belongings. • If you have any problems at all, make sure you tell an adult who you trust straight away, you don’t need to keep anything a secret. • Remember all you need to do is try your best at all times and include everyone in your games and activities.
