What are the Community Games? • The games are a childcentred organisation that focus on participation rather than winning. • Children compete in friendly rivalry, in a fun and healthy way across a range of sports and cultural activities. • The games can be seen from both a local and national level. • Children from the age of 6 to 16 take part across the games.de range of activities. How did the Community Games begin? • They began in 1967 with the aim of allowing children to use their free time in a productive and enjoyable manner. • The Community Games is a non profitable organisation which depends solely on volunteers to organise and run the events every year. The importance of ‘Grassroots Athletics’ • Safe and enjoyable environment • Less competitive – Track VS Grass • Children can be challenged and comfortable at the same time • Make long lasting friends from their own local regions to the broader regions • Different age groups = different events = Greater exposure to events and skills 4. •Local Area Trials •Local Training •County Community Games •All Ireland Community Games My Involvement • Past Involvement • Qualified U10 from my local area in the 60m nd hurdles-2 in the Counties. • Qualified every year from U12-U16 in the relay, 600m, hurdles to the National Finals. • Current Involvement • Coach/Volunteer • County Manager assisting the running of the events on the day and management of athletes and teams.
