Literacy This half term in Literacy, the children will be focussing mainly on planning and writing in the first and third person in the form of recounts and reports. Initially, the children will be recalling and writing about an event that they were a part of before moving on to write a report about the Great Train Robbery, an event which is closely linked to the work we will be doing in our topic lessons (planes, trains and automobiles). Later on this half term, we will begin to look at the format of play scripts using work from the likes of Shakespeare and also a script the children are already familiar with from our trip to the Galleries of Justice- Captain Fenton. Maths Numeracy this half term will consist of using all 4 operations to help solve real-life problems involving money and measure using up to 3 decimal places. Children will also begin to touch upon statistics and data handling through the reading and interpretation of tables and graphs as well as beginning to use percentages. Children will also continue to develop their knowledge of the number system, including decimals and fractions, as well as recapping time using 12 and 24 hour clocks. Science This term in science we will be looking at ‘Everyday Materials’ where children will have the chance to explore, in more detail, the materials that surround them in every day life. Children will be looking at the properties of materials and how they can change form depending on their circumstances as well as deciding which materials would be best if they were making something such as a house, bike, trampoline etc. Topic (including history and art) Our topic this term is ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ and children will be looking at the evolution of these transport types from their earliest beginnings up until the present day. The children will also have the chance to research important pioneers in the field of transport and present their finding to the rest of the class. The children will also have the chance to design their own form of transport through the use of art. Religion As the children are focussing on Christianity and Judaism this year, for the next term we will be looking at the celebrations in which these 2 religions partake, what they represent, how they are celebrated and the sacrifices that these people make. Children will have the chance to discuss their thoughts about these celebrations and share ideas about religion with the rest of the class. P.E This term in P.E the children will be focussing on the rules and the skills needed used in basketball. Children will partake in a number of skills development activities/lessons as well as having the opportunity to play games. This will help to improving the children technically (hand-eye coordination, catching, throwing) as well as socially through teamwork, leadership and communicating with others. ICT This term in ICT, the children will be looking at networking and programming, becoming more familiar with key terms relating to the internet and computer programs. Children will start by looking at how to view webpages, moving onto how search engines work and internet safety. Within programming, children will be looking at how to sequence a set of instructions, creating algorithms to produces their own games.
