CCG “Heroes” Campaign

Health Champions
Welcome to the first “Health Champions” mini newsletter!
The CCG has now got quite a long list of people who are “Champions” and it is growing quickly!
Please cascade the information in this as appropriate- we know that not everything will be of
interest to all groups and communities.
CCG “Heroes” Campaign
In case you had missed it, the CCG has been running a “We could be
Heroes” campaign” - more detail on this website:
http://www.wecouldbeheroes.nhs.uk/
We are trying to help people understand the options for care when it’s urgent, but not an
emergency; we know for example that people may not be aware of the NHS 111 phone number, or
the Walk in Centre at Brighton Station, and this information can help those who liaise with groups
and communities to support people to be aware of the different options.
How you can help:
We have publicity materials available – posters and business card sized fold outs, and we can
provide information for you to put on your websites.
Please let us know if you’d like some posters/leaflets to give to your groups and communities, or
website text. Please contact Sue Lloyd: [email protected];
Stroke services – we need your views
There is a review of stroke services taking place across Sussex at the moment. We are gathering
views on what is important in a stroke service to patients and their carers.
How you can help:
There is an online survey which is open until the end of August- please do let people know about the
survey if appropriate.
We also have leaflets describing the review, with a tear off part that can be filled in and sent back
(mirroring the online survey.). If you would like any leaflets, please let us know:

Green Bag scheme
An innovative 'Green Bag' scheme has been launched in Brighton
and Hove to improve medicines safety for some of the city's most
vulnerable patients. People are being encouraged to take all their
current medication in a specially designed plastic Green Bag if they
have to go into hospital or a care home, or to their community
pharmacy when they visit for a medicines review. This simple
system has been introduced to help health professionals know what
medicines an individual is taking at any given time. The aim is to
reduce the risk of medicine errors and missed doses occurring as
patients move between different health services during the course
of their treatment.
How you can help:
If you would like some Green Bags for any of the groups and communities you liaise with (or for
more information) please contact Dr Carina Livingstone - [email protected]
My Life Website
The My Life Website - www.mylifebh.org.uk – is designed to be a “one stop shop” for information
on health conditions, health related services, and support from both local and national
organizations- including the local Community and Voluntary sector- in our city.
The website is not yet formally launched- so not shiny publicity material as yet- but it can be used,
and we would love feedback about what would be useful to add.
How you can help:
Please do pass the details of the site on as appropriate- especially to those whose role involves
signposting clients to sources of support
Training for “Champions”
Earlier in 2015 we ran some fantastic training for would-be champions to help them increase their
understanding of how health systems work, how we commission and purchase services and how we
incorporate feedback from those who use services into our planning and ongoing service delivery.
We are running this training again! It is over 5 sessions; each session is 3 hours long and will run
from 4.30 pm – 7.30 pm. Please see information attached with this newsletter for details of sessions.
2
Ideally we’d like people to come to all 5 sessions, but we understand that sometimes life gets in the
way!
There is no “award” at the end- this is just to help increase knowledge about how our systems work
and how a champion might fit in. We will cover travel expenses – bus/train fares, petrol and parking
– for anyone that wants to come.
How you can help:
Please pass on as appropriate to anyone you feel might find this useful- or do apply yourself!
There are only 20 spaces so please do let us know soon if you are interested.
Please do let us know what you think of this newsletter, or if you have ideas and/or
information that can be included in the next one. We aim to send them out every three
months.
