A brief description of the Manager’s role is provided for each of the major events. Securing Fields for Home Games When you receive the league schedule, contact all other managers of teams sharing the same coach to identify any overlapping home game days. Agree on preferred games times to minimize conflicts for the coach. E-mail the NCSA Referee and Game Field Assignor with: - Dates of home games - Three preferred times for each game - Any coaching conflicts so they can be considered when assigning fields and game times Sunday games will be scheduled between 12 noon and 6 pm (daylight permitting). Saturday travel games will be scheduled based on field availability. Your game times are confirmed once the Referee and Game Field Assignor e-mails you with your game times and fields. Referees will be assigned by the Referee and Game Field Assignor and will be on the field at the scheduled time. Please notify your opposing team managers, your team parents, and coaches of the game schedule as soon as it is known. Advise the manager of the opposing team of time of the game, location, directions to the field (directions available on NCSA website), and field hotline number (594-3610) in case of inclement weather. It is also advisable to exchange cell phone numbers and to confirm the jersey colors of the visiting team to avoid color conflicts. Changing Assigned Game Time or Game Date If a change to your game time and/or game date is needed after the master schedule of league game field assignments is set, contact the Referee and Game Field Assignor at least three days before the date of the game change. The Referee and Game Field Assignor will then confirm your request for the time and/or date change. If you fail to notify the Referee and Game Field Assignor of game changes, your team may have not have referees at the game or may need to pay fees to the referees who arrive for the game. Securing Fields for Connecticut Cup Games at Home As soon as you receive confirmation from the CJSA that your team will have a Connecticut Cup game at home, contact the Referee and Game Field Assignor for a field assignment, no later than Monday noon before the Saturday Connecticut Cup game. The Referee and Game Field Assignor will ensure a CJSA-approved referee is assigned to the Connecticut Cup game. Cancellation of Games Check the field hotline at 203-594-3610 for the field status prior to the game. If the field is closed due to weather condition, inform the manager of the opposing team immediately. If a game is cancelled for any reason other than weather (as directed by the New Canaan Parks and Recreation’s field hotline) within 24 hours of scheduled time, the referees must be paid. If the game is cancelled between 4 and 24 hours prior to game time, notify the Referee and Game Field Assignor and he will arrange for payment to the referees. He will advise you of the status of the referees. - If the Referee and Game Field Assignor is unable to notify the referees, a representative from your team must come to the field and pay the referees. - If the Referee and Game Field Assignor is able to notify the referees within the 4-hour time period, he will handle the payment of fees to the referees. - If you are unable reach the Referee and Game Field Assignor, a representative must come to the field and pay the referees. Referees are to be paid in cash at each home game before the game begins. Expect a center and two linesmen at each home game. Please be prepared by bringing enough cash. Do not expect the refs to make change. All managers will reconcile the referees scheduled for each game against which referees actually work the game. The primary role is to track playing time for the professional coach and to maintain order on the bench so the professional coach can focus on the game. It is possible you will be asked to warm up a team or possibly start a game if the professional coach is unable to get to the start of a game due to his obligation to his other NCSA team. In the event he is unable to attend the game at all, a substitute professional coach will be supplied by the respective coaching organization. All parents wishing to be considered for this role need to submit an application and CJSA Disclosure form (available online at www.newcanaansoccer.org) to the Registrar. The Director of Coaching will make the final selection and the selected candidates will remain in this position for the Fall and Spring seasons unless a change is warranted. TEAM MANAGER - Coordinates all team activities, acts as liaison with coaches, parents, and the NCSA age-group coordinator. Supplies field directions to team members and visiting teams. Secures field for home games. Communicates with opposing team managers to coordinate game times for away games. Coordinates any paperwork required for player/coaches passes, rosters and permission to travel forms. Ensures that player passes, rosters, medical kit and Medical Release forms are brought to each game. Attends district age-group meeting in Fall and Spring seasons. TREASURER - Collects all fees from team parents for tournaments, trainers, coach, team parties, etc. and remits payment to the proper person. Obtains reimbursement of fees from the NCSA Treasurer on behalf of the team. Pays or ensures that referees are paid prior to each game. SAFETY COORDINATOR – Creates a rotating schedule of families to ensure that there is an adult in addition to the coach at all practices. This individual is not expected to help with practice but rather is available should a player need assistance and remains at the field until the last child is picked up.
