Local TV Personality Makes Move to Law Firm
Christie Witt leaves WGRZ for Director of Public Affairs position
BUFFALO, NY—Christie Witt, formerly known as, ‘Traffic Tracker 2’ on WGRZ’s early morning
program, has resigned her position at the NBC affiliate to accept a new role as the Director of
Business Development and Public Affairs with Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP.
At LMWF, Christie is responsible for all public relations, marketing, and business development
endeavors. Scott Friedman, the firm’s managing partner says the integration of Christie’s position
comes as part of the firm’s current national and international growth. “Our firm continues to attract
extraordinary professional engagements locally, statewide and across the country. Having Christie as
part of our team will allow us to continue to strategically target our continuing expansion of
representation,” says Friedman.
Christie says the decision to change careers was not an easy one. “It was a very tough decision for
me to leave [WGRZ-TV]. I’ve worked in television news since I was 19 years old and remain very
appreciative of every opportunity presented to me as a result, but there came a point where I needed
to focus on advancing my career. A life in television news is not always a glamorous one, and for me,
was also not a sustainable one.”
While at Channel 2, in addition to her on-air responsibilities, Witt also served as the Midday Newscast
Producer, a program that was Number One in its respective 11 a.m. time slot. One of her
responsibilities as an on-air personality was emceeing numerous community events for local
organizations such as Gateway-Longview, Labatt Blue, M & T Bank, and Medaille College.
Witt holds a Master’s degree with honors from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public
Communication and a Bachelor’s degree from Medaille College, who honored her with the Alumni of
the Year Award in 2011.
Before making her on-air debut in the Buffalo market, Christie worked in several top 10 television
markets, including Los Angeles, CA and Washington, DC.
LMWF was founded in 1965 and is a broadly-based practice with emphasis in the areas of business
and financial transactions, litigation, commercial real estate and development, benefits and
employment practices, estate planning, and intellectual property. The firm operates out of downtown
Buffalo.
