Parent/Guardian Sample Letters The parents in attendance were given a copy of a sample letter to be sent to parents in the fall describing the framework for Behavior Management. The Committee asked the parents to work in groups for approximately 10 minutes to review this letter and provide input. They were advised to ask questions and highlight any statements that may need to be deleted or modified. Parent comments and input were great. The letter will be updated with the parent recommended changes. Parent Notification Letter(s) of School Suspension The Committee shared two suspension letters with the parents, one for 1-3 days and one for 4-10 days. One of these letters would be sent to a parent as required by Illinois law if their student is suspended from school due to an act of gross disobedience or misconduct. For the student to gain reentry into the program/school, a parent will be required to come w/the student the first day back. The result of this procedure is to cut down on future suspensions and/or expulsions. Website Update/New Parent Portal (presented by Neil Perry, Director of Technology) Under the tab of the SASED website, next to the Search bar, there is a multi-colored square. This is the added language translation, which currently is only Spanish. Other languages will be added as needed. We are still working on the ADA update, and plans for the immediate future include a Discussion Board and a Resource List. The parents requested a social networking link, i.e. Facebook, which could potentially include teachers. There could be a potential for a Parent Portal on MySASED, which is user name and password protected. They might be able to link or tie it in with the student’s registration.
