Reliance Metro’s Airport Express Line Recommences Operations
New Delhi, January 21, 2013: Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RInfra), part of the Reliance
Group, through its Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited
(DAMEPL), today announced that the Airport Metro line would resume commercial
operations at its regular timing of 5:30 AM from January 22, 2013.
India’s first Airport Express initially started its commercial operation on February 23,
2011. However, keeping in view passenger safety issues arising due to defects in civil
structures, the services had to be suspended in July 2012.
These defects have since been rectified by DMRC and the line was offered for reinspection to the Commissioner Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) in December 2012. The line
was inspected by CMRS on 15th and 16th January, 2013 and a formal clearance for
commercial operation was received on January 18, 2013.
Reliance Metro’s Airport Express Line would run daily from 5.30 AM to 11.30 PM at a
frequency of 15 minutes. Airport Express Line, India’s first high speed Metro developed
under Public Private Partnership provides world class connectivity from New Delhi
Railway Station to Indira Gandhi Airport (T3) terminating at Dwarka Sector 21.
Although, Reliance Metro’s Airport Express Line is connected directly to Terminal-3,
passengers arriving at or boarding flights from Terminal-1 can also avail this service
from Aerocity Station. Reliance Metro has made arrangements to provide seamless
connectivity for Terminal-1 passengers to Aerocity Station through shared cab and
shuttle bus services.
Facilities such as Cloak room, Trolley & Porter Service, Radio Cab service, Wi-Fi at
stations etc., would be available from day one. Baggage Check-in infrastructure for both
National and International travel are in place but the service of baggage check-in would
start shortly. A separate notification for the same would be issued.
The Airport Express Line is connected with DMRC lines at Dwarka (Blue Line) and at
New Delhi (Yellow Line). The line had already carried 68 lakh passengers and done
more than 70,000 trips in 15 months. Air Travellers and Commuters are encouraged to
make use of this world class facility.
In addition to Single journey tokens, Airport Line has introduced new products in the
form of Return Journey Tokens and Sunday/Holiday discount tokens while retaining the
Monthly passes for regular commuters. As a promotional initiative, Airport Line
announces that on the first day (January 22, 2013 only) passengers can travel from
anywhere to anywhere on its line at a Discounted nominal fare of Rs. 30 only per trip.
