February 12th Newsletter - Catholic School, St. Margaret Mary

Happy Valentines Day to our SMMS School Family!
Wow! We are already in our second week of February! Lots of wonderful events are
happening on our campus.
1. Last week, the students (particularly primary grades) celebrated 100 days of school.
Mrs. Vicelja and her awesome kindergartners made wonderful posters to commemorate
the event. If you have a chance, stop by the kindergarten hallway board to see these
masterpieces! They are spectacular!!
2. The entire school also teamed together to collect socks for the needy. Donovan Edgeley,
a student at St. Anthony’s High School and alumnus of our great school, asked the
students of SMMS to help him collect socks. He created a contest which rewards the
class with the most socks donated a pizza party! Well, the winner of the contest is…Mrs.
Hines and her fabulous third graders!!! Congratulations to her students and the entire
school for showing tremendous support!!!
3. ST. MARGARET MARY SCHOOL HAS A T-BALL TEAM!! SMMS partnered with
Lomita Little League to create our very own team. Can’t wait to watch these little ones
‘hit it out of the park!’ I will publish their schedule when I receive it. A HUGE THANK
YOU goes out to Adriana Flores for all her efforts in making this possible. THANK
YOU, THANK YOU!! A special thank you to Mrs. Garbe for putting the ‘finishing
touches’ on the team negotiations. A ‘thank you in advance’ goes out to Eron Calip for
all his future efforts in coaching our little Spartans.
4. Just a reminder – pets are not allowed on campus. Although they are quite cute, we
have seen a number of pets at pick up time. I kindly ask you to leave your pets at home
when dropping off or picking up your child. We have a number of students who are
very allergic to the dander of animals; particularly dogs. In addition, our little ones are
afraid of unknown dogs. Thank you for your cooperation.
5. Mrs. Hines and her Third Grade did a beautiful job hosting our “ALL SCHOOL MASS”
this last Friday. Thank you 3rd graders for your ‘Mass of Love.’ Job well done! Thank
you- Fr. Marinello for presiding.
6. VALENTINES DAY IS TUESDAY – teachers are planning parties for their students on
that day. Students may wear red socks and red shirts to celebrate the day. Students
must still wear their uniform pants, shorts or skirt with uniform shoes.
 8th graders will also be visiting classrooms to handout pre-sold VALENTINES GRAMS!
Thank you all who supported that event.
