KLHC Sponsorship 2014 - Kendal Ladies Hockey

Monday 9th June 2014
Dear Sir or Madam,
On Saturday 30th March 2013 Kendal Ladies Hockey Club became the first ever Cumbrian
Hockey team to gain promotion into the Investec National Women’s Hockey League. This
season the first team have maintained their status in the top flight of women’s hockey.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your support as our club continues this
exciting venture. We are currently exploring sponsorship opportunities for the 2014/2015
season that will enable us to continue the club’s growth and further enhance the reputation
of Cumbria and Cumbrian Hockey
Joining the National League, whilst being a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Hockey
talent within Cumbria, also comes with its challenges. The Investec Women’s Hockey
League has a very detailed set of rules and standards that are applicable to all matches.
Our club teams play their matches at the Kirkbie Kendal School, Cinder Ovens Astro-turf
pitch where, throughout the weekend, you can regularly see a number of these teams
competing in their league games. Whilst Kirkbie Kendal School are supporting
improvements to both the changing rooms and the pitch lay-out there are a number of
other challenges that we hope you can support us with.
The enclosed document outlines some of the ways in which we feel you may be able to
assist our Hockey Club in the coming season.
It is the intention of Kendal Ladies Hockey Club that all members benefit from the
improvements for which we are seeking sponsorship. This will enable us to continue
growing as a club, develop our youth and provide a truly sustainable platform for Hockey in
Kendal. The ultimate aim for our club is to represent Kendal and Cumbria on the National
stage, and this can only be done with your help.
On behalf of Kendal Ladies Hockey Club I hope this letter has captured your interest and I
would welcome the opportunity to discuss any of the sponsorship options enclosed.
Yours Faithfully,
V. Atkinson

Club History
Kendal Ladies Hockey Club is a relatively young club. It began as Netherfield Hockey Club
in the 1980’s and only became Kendal Ladies Hockey Club when it moved to play on
astroturf in 1995.
The club began life in the local Netherwood League before gaining the confidence to enter
a team into the Cumbria League in 2002. In the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons
Kendal Ladies Hockey Club won back to back Cumbria League Championships to gain
promotion into the North West Feeder League.
Three years on, Kendal Ladies Hockey Club again gained promotion, into North Division
One, after an undefeated 2008-2009 season.
The club settled into North Division One quickly and finished a respectable third in their
first season. During the following season, 2010-2011, the club continued to develop and
were successful in gaining promotion into the North Premier Division.
At this time Kendal Ladies Hockey Club were fortunate enough to be able to expand and
introduce a second team to start life in the Cumbria League. The second team have been
seen as an essential part of this developing club; helping to support the first team, bring on
new and junior players and bridge the gap between the juniors of the Netherwood League
and the first team at the top of the North.
Throughout its development Kendal Ladies Hockey Club has continued to support the
Netherwood League where it first started out, using it to introduce the club’s flourishing
junior section to 11-a-side competitive Hockey.
For the first team’s initial season in the North Premiership the club’s goal was to hold a
mid-table position but Kendal exceeded expectations to manage a top 5 finish. The
following season, 2012-2013, Kendal Ladies Hockey Club has gone on to make history as
the first Cumbrian team to achieve promotion into the Investec Women’s National
Conference North.
During the 2013-2014 season the first team were successful in achieving their goal of
staying in the Investec National Women’s Hockey League.
Within the space of 10 years, this Kendal-based club has developed from a small local
league team into a National League Hockey Club!
