Nurses and carers reject Bupa`s 2.1 per cent wage offer

Campaign update 2
Nurses and carers reject Bupa’s
2.1 per cent wage offer
1. Status of EBA negotiations
At a negotiation meeting late last week ANMF rejected Bupa Care’s offer of
a 2.1 per cent wage increase for nurses and personal care workers and a roll-over
agreement with no other changes.
Thank you to all of the Bupa members who voted in our online poll last week to
let us know how you wanted your union to represent you. The overwhelming
majority (85 per cent) of those who voted rejected the Bupa offer.
While ANMF acknowledges the aged care sector is facing challenging circumstances,
Bupa Care must recognise that its pay rates are well below Victorian industry
standards for all registered nurses, enrolled nurses and personal care worker
classifications. Bupa Care pay rates are in the bottom 15 per cent of all aged care
agreements in Victoria.

ANMF continues to claim a wage rise that will bring Bupa nurses’ and personal care
and Bupa campaign cupcakes
workers’ wages closer to the Victorian aged care industry standard rates. The claim
aims to close the wage gap between Victorian Bupa nurses and their colleagues in
New South Wales Bupa facilities. Victorian personal care workers are paid more than their colleagues across the border.
ANMF is seeking a negotiating meeting with Bupa before Christmas.
2. Aged care enterprise bargaining planning and information days
Bupa Job Reps and members are encouraged to register for an upcoming one-day seminar to learn how to retain and improve
your wages.
The Aged Care Bargaining 2017 – Planning and Information Day will be:
•
an explanation of the bargaining process and protected industrial action
•
what’s in your current EBA?
•
what are we asking for?
•
the ANMF approach to negotiating with your employers
•
how to have a conversation with colleagues about joining the ANMF and supporting the bargaining campaign.
The seminar will be held at ANMF House, 540 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. Register for one of the following three dates that
suits you:
Friday 20 January 2017, 9am – 4.30pm https://goo.gl/zKRenq

3. Eight ways to support your Bupa Aged Care campaign
Apart from attending one of the aged care EBA planning and information days here are eight ways to improve your wages
and conditions:
1.Invite your colleagues to join ANMF. Analysis of agreements shows we achieve better wages and conditions in workplaces
that have strong membership.
2.Attend ANMF members meetings to discuss the progress of talks and be involved in decisions that affect your wages and
conditions.
3.Ensure you have at least one Job Rep in your aged care facility. Job Reps are a point of contact between members and the
union and improve communication. Call your ANMF Organiser on 9275 9333 to nominate or download a brochure from the
Reps section of the website.
4. Read ANMF emails and newsflashes. We only send it if it’s important.
5.Like the ANMF Facebook page and change your settings to see our posts first. You’ll hear the latest news here and you’ll be
able to read, support and show support for the Bupa campaign. Members are encouraged to read our social media policy.
6.Update your contact details, particularly email and workplace on the ANMF member portal so you receive the news and
information that is relevant to you.
7.Distribute the Value Recognise Reward bumper stickers and flags – your Organiser and the ANMF recruitment team will
bring them on their next visit to your facility.
8. Buy a $10 Value Recognise Reward T-shirt from the ANMF webshop
4. Update your details with ANMF
ANMF will keep you updated via further campaign updates, our website, emails and text messages where appropriate.
Please update your details, including your workplace and a personal email address, at the Member Portal
5. Our strength is our membership
Please forward this email on to your colleagues and ask them to consider the benefits of joining ANMF and the campaign
to improve wages, workloads, working conditions and their ability to provide safe resident care.
