At the Local Tour level, kids can gain their first exposure to competitive golf, meet new friends, and learn valuable life lessons. Local Tours are a great way to get kids involved in golf. The events average more than 300 participants who have earned Priority Status. Players with Green Status are offered first priority to register for the event, followed by Orange, then Blue. These tournaments are run by official U.S. Kids Golf Staff with the support of local volunteers. From family-friendly accommodations and championship courses, to “Family Night” and other fun activities, Regional Championships are more than a golf tournament; they’re a family destination. www.uskidsgolf.com/regional State Invitationals State Invitationals are two-day tournaments designed to bridge the gap between Local Tours and Regional Championships. The events average more than 150 participants, ages 5—14, who have earned Priority Status. Invitations are sent to in-state residents with Priority Status, then out-of-state Priority Status players, based on space availability. These tournaments are run by U.S. Kids Golf Local Tour Directors with the support of area volunteers. www.uskidsgolf.com/state Since 2008, many of the world’s best young golfers, ages 5—18, have journeyed to East Lothian, Scotland for the prestigious U.S. Kids Golf European Championship. This signature international event is contested on five championship courses at the birthplace of golf. These heralded links courses challenge over 600 participants from more than 50 countries. The event begins at the Gosford House, where families can participate in Highland Games during the Opening Ceremony. Following the three-day championship, the European Van Horn Cup — a one-day best ball tournament featuring the top players from Western Europe squaring off against the top players from the rest of the world — is contested on Luffness New. www.uskidsgolf.com/europe International Championships International Championships offer young golfers a chance to compete against their counterparts from across the world. In 2015, the inaugural British Kids Championship and Venice Open were held in Woodhall Spa, England and Padova, Italy, respectively. These events are nationally recognized by Junior Golf Scoreboard and the AJGA. World Championship The World Championship is the pinnacle event for young golfers, ages 5 to 12. Each year since 2005, Pinehurst and the surrounding community have played host to over 1400 golfers from more than fifty countries. The week-long experience includes a Parent/Child tournament, Team Challenge, Parade of Nations, Honda Skills Challenge, three rounds of tournament play, and the Closing Ceremony. Following the three-day championship, the World Van Horn Cup — a one-day best ball tournament featuring the top twelve-year-olds from the United States squaring off against the top twelveyear-olds from the rest of the world — is contested on Pinehurst No. 2. www.uskidsgolf.com/world Parent Caddies U.S. Kids Golf encourages and supports parental involvement in youth golf, especially through the role of caddying. Players ages eight and under must have a caddy for all tournaments, while caddies are optional for kids nine and over. Caddying is one of the most memorable ways to support the growth of a young person’s game. Becoming a good caddy takes time and experience. Teen World Championship Each year, the Teen World Championship welcomes golfers ages 13—18 to six championship courses in the Pinehurst area. These courses have provided a stage for golf’s next generation of stars to shine. Over 600 golfers from more than 40 countries travel to the home of Amerircan golf for the Teen World Championship. The schedule consists of a college golf seminar, Skills Experience, three rounds of tournament play, and the Closing Ceremony.
