Way
Essential Question
Identify the four major parts of
the “Cornell Way” of taking
notes and for each part, list the
essential components
Part 1: Note-Taking
• Create Cornell Notes Format
and complete all headings.
•Organize/Write your notes on the right
side
•Write in your own words, leave
space, abbreviate, write in phrases,
bullet-point lists, pay attn. to what's
important vs. what's not, recognize
important cues.
Part II: Note-MakingWithin 24 hours of taking notes- Go
over them, make questions, clarify
• Review/Revise
– Make sure use Cornell Note Revision
checklist to review/revise/edit notes
• Note Key Ideas (use these key
ideas to make your questions.
• Exchange Ideas with others in
class in a collaborative fashion
(Twitter? Snap Chat?)
Part III- Note Interacting
• Link Learning.
– Look at notes on right and content on
left, and prior knowledge to help write
summary
– When Writing summary
• First address Essential Question
• Answer (if possible) higher level
questions on left.
• Learning Tool- Review completed
notes 10 minutes per day
Part IV- Note Reflecting
• Written Feedback– Use a peer and/or the CN rubric to
evaluate your notes
• Address Feedback
– Look for steps in the process that can
be improved.
• Your Reflection
– Be sure to reflect on your growth in
the Cornell Note Process and room
for improvement

• CN should have summary for
EACH page of notes unless
specified differently by content
