NOTICE OF RACE
The O’Leary Insurance White Sail Summer League will take place at the Royal Cork Yacht Club
(RCYC), Crosshaven, County Cork on each Friday from Friday May 4th 2012 to Friday July 6th
2012 and on each Friday from Friday July 20th 2012 to Friday September 21st 2012 with a
scheduled first gun at 1855 hours until Friday August 31st, and a first gun thereafter of 1825
hours.

1.1
RULES
The Regatta will be sailed under the current RRS (2009 – 2012), the ISA prescriptions,
the IHS handicapping System, Class rules where applicable, by this Notice of Race and
by the General Sailing Instructions of the Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC) except as
amended by this program. Amendments to this program and RCYC General Sailing
Instructions will be posted on the RCYC notice board.

2.1
ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
A completed signed Race Entry Declaration 2012 must be submitted in order for a boat to
be eligible for a result. Boats that have not submitted a valid Race Entry Declaration
before racing may not be given a result.
2.2
Entries may be divided into 2 classes depending on the range and number of entries. A
number of factors will be taken into account with the object of providing fair sailing and
in particular of separating the more race oriented boats from the more cruiser type boats.
The factors which will be used for this purpose will include:
(i) IRC Non-Spinnaker TCC
(ii) Displacement Length Ratio [DLR]
(iii) Hull Factor [HF]
(iv) Hull length
(v) Sailcloth material.

2.3
Results will only be issued to boats that have valid sail numbers clearly legible on both
sides of its mainsail.

3.1
CLASSIFICATION
Entries must comply with ISAF Special Regulations Governing Offshore Racing for
Category 4 Races.
3.2
Entries in all classes are required to fly the correct pennant. Any boat not flying the
correct pennant may not be scored.
3.3
The OA reserves the right to combine Classes if the number of entries does not justify
separate Classes, and to split Classes if the number of entries warrant.
3.4
Boats shall show their correct Sail Numbers. Permission to race using any other Sail
Number must be sought from the Race Office prior to going afloat. Any boat not showing
its correct Sail Numbers may not be scored.
3.5
The Race Committee reserve the right to place any boat in any Class they deem
appropriate.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The event will be sailed under the General Sailing Instructions of the RCYC.

VENUE
The League will be hosted by the RCYC and will be sailed in the waters of Cork Harbour
and its approaches.

7.1
SCORING
The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply, with the following amendments:
DNC Number of finishers in that race plus 3 points
DNS Number of finishers in that race plus 1 point
OCS Number of finishers in that race plus 2 points
BFD Number of finishers in that race plus 2 points
DNF/RAF/OOT Number of finishers in that race plus 1 point
DSQ Number of finishers in that race plus 2 points
DNE/DGM Number of finishers in that race plus 3 points
7.2
3 races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
7.3
(a)
When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the
total of her race scores.
(b)
When from 5 to 9 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total
of her race scores excluding her worst score.
(c)
When from 10 to 14 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the
total of her race scores excluding her 2 worst scores.
(d)
When 15 to 17 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of
her race scores excluding her 3 worst scores.
(e)
If more than 18 races are completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her
race scores excluding her 4 worst scores.

8.1
RADIO COMMUNICATION
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor
receive radio communications not available to all competing boats. This restriction also
applies to mobile telephones.
8.2
VHF Channel 71 will be used for race management.

DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
The Safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance shall be the sole
responsibility of the owner/competitor racing the boat. He/She must ensure that the boat
and her crew are adequate to face the conditions that may arise in the course of the
Regatta. Neither the establishment of the required safety regulations nor the inspection of
any boat in any way limits or reduces the absolute responsibility of the owner/competitor
for their crew, boat and the management thereof.

INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a
minimum cover of €2,000,000 per Regatta or the equivalent.
