The news came officially on July 19,
one day before the Annual Career Pathways Mandatory Meeting. The
office erupted with cheers before settling in one office to
discuss and review the full Annual Performance Based Student Support Funds Report for
FY11.
Career Pathways at
UACCM saw a drastic increase in its Performance Based funding,
which came in at $32,794.14. This money is added to the operating budget for
the 2012 fiscal year, nearly doubling the
$18,003 Performance Based funding for
FY10, officially presented at AATYC in
October. The measures for this relate to
three target areas: enrollment, attainment, and employment.
The money is designated by our program for benefit of the students. The
money will be used to employ two student workers to assist with our computer
labs and office functions, as well as provide childcare assistance for several stu-
dents enrolled in Fall 2011 classes. The
money also assists in the implementation
of a software program to help
track meetings and record
information from students in
a secure manner. Finally, the
money will assist us in furnishing the computer lab at
the Continuing Education
Center on St. Joseph Street
with new equipment.
Career Pathways is proud of this outstanding accomplishment. Based on the
performance goals we have outlined in
previous issues of Star-Gazer, this award
demonstrates the need for continued improvement in the program. Working in
collaboration with students, faculty, and
staff at UACCM, we have been able to
improve the lives of our program’s participants. This additional funding ensures
our ability to continue benefitting our
students in new ways.

Annual Mandatory Meeting Re-Cap
The second annual Career Pathways Mandatory
Meeting was held on
Wednesday, July 20, in the
Fine Arts Auditorium. The
meeting was based on the
theme of “A Journey with
Meaning”, and featured
critical information for students about the program
and the new policies for the
2011-2012 year.
Featured in the meeting
were several radio-themed
skits, each designed to help
students remember important information about
the program, but in a fun
and comical way.
Topics covered during
the presentation included
gas card distribution, book
requests, and award letters,
as well as ways to check in
with the Career Pathways
staff. The staff also covered
important changes to existing programs, including the
significant changes made to
the book loan program.
This year, the bulk of
Career Pathways students
will receive their books
through the UACCM library, instead of receiving
books through the UACCM
bookstore or book rentals.
One benefit of this new distribution site is that students
who are not eligible for the
Career Pathways book loan
program may be able to
check out remaining textbooks for the semester.
More changes came to
the Career Pathways page
on the UACCM website.
Students can now look to
the page as a resource hub.
In addition to deadline postings, our handbook, and
information about the Employability Certificate, students can also fulfill their
required check-in each gas
card period online. We
hope to continually update
the page, making it a greater resource.
Congratulations to our
students and staff for an
excellent 2011, and we look
forward to working together
for an even better 2012!

PLATO Upgrade Complete
New platform offers more features,
broader coursework, and discussion
threads.
We are excited to unveil the
PLATO Learning Environment
(PLE), a platform upgrade to
the PLATO Web Learning Network. In addition to a new
“course” format, instructors
will be able to target training to student needs, based on placement tests.
Instructors may be able to find
materials directly relating to particular
competency standards. Most exciting,
however, is that discussion threads
are now available to use to enhance instruction and student participation.
Career Pathways is actively finding new ways to implement PLE
in Bridge programs and other components of learning.
