PART2
Describe a game (not about sport) you enjoyed when you were a child.

What the game was

When, where, and with whom you usually played it

How you played it

And explain why you enjoyed this game / what was special about the
game
The game that I’m going to talk about is called Happy Stupid which requires
at least 4 people to play together. In this game, two people make up a group
and the order of each group is decided by throwing a dice. In each group,
team work is emphasized as one person need to describe a word by different
methods and the other need to look at him carefully and guess the word. In
addition, there are two dices in this game, one decides the order and the
other decides in which way we should describe a word. Those ways include
lip-reading, performing, drawing and describing. I used to play this game with
my classmates before classes started. Once this game was so popular among
us that some students even played it during classes. Our teacher got quite
angry and forbade this game at school. I liked this game a lot as it is
interesting and instructive. Unlike computer games which would do harm to
our eyes and not beneficial, this game brought us happiness and a better way
of learning things----that is through active thinking. What’s more, this game
taught me that teamwork and caring for each other are more important than
winning.


In general, how is outside play for children different to playing inside?
Well, I firmly believe that playing outside is much healthier than playing
inside because usually, outdoor activities include sports and exercise
which could be really beneficial to children’s physical health. Children
could take in a lot of oxygen while doing sports and being happy could
also contribute to their mental health. On the contrary, indoor games are,
under most circumstances, sedentary and unhealthy.

Do you think the indoor activities and outdoor activities develop children
’s abilities the same way?
Of course not. Indoor activities focus more on developing children’s
intelligence and logical thinking while outdoor activities help to build their
bodies through sports and exercise. What’s more, I think playing outside
sometimes requires the ability of team work and cooperation so a sense of
responsibility and caring for others could also be cultivated.

What’s the most popular game in china?
For children, the most popular game is called hide-and-seek. In this game,
one child would act as the police and count to 100 to wait for other
children to hide. At the same time, other children should find a place to
hide themselves as quickly and safely as possible and try not to be found
by the “police”. For adults, poker is without doubt the most popular
game.

How have games changed in the past few decades?
From my point of view, due to the rapid development of internet and
computer technology, a huge number of computer games and on-line
games have emerged. People are addicted to these kinds of games so that
they like to face the cold screen. In the past few decades, however, games

like majiang and poker had the power to get people together and
contribute to face-to-face communication.

How are children’s games different to adults’ games?
I think different games have different goals. Children’s games
concentrate more on developing their intelligence and logical thinking
while adults’ games aim at helping people feel relaxed and happy.

Why do many adults today not play games?
I think there are mainly two reasons. Firstly, adults today are so busy that
they don’t have enough time to have a rest, let alone games. Secondly,
there are few good games which are suitable for adults so many people
may neglect the importance of playing games and relaxing themselves.

Do you think modern lifestyles encourage or discourage adults from
playing games?
I think modern lifestyles encourage adults to play games. Working and
living under heavy pressure, adults need something different and fresh to
help them escape from the real world and relax themselves. But in my
opinion, we are lack of healthy and funny games. Games like poker may
get people addicted to gambling and this may bring about a terrible
result.

Do you think group activities (including team sports) can help give a child
a sense of responsibility?
Yes I think so. Group activities are without doubt helpful in helping to
cultivate a sense of responsibility. Let’s take football for example. In a
football match, one should fulfill his own responsibility and consider about

the whole team as well. What he should keep in mind is not only his own
performance and duty but also the whole situation and cooperation with
other team members. So, for a child, his responsibly could be well
cultivated during group activities.
