1. Welcome and Introductions
Everyone introduced themselves to the rest of the group.
2. Matters arising from last meeting – 16th July 2014
 KB went through the previous meeting minutes and gave a quick update for
those that did not attend.
 Several groups have submitted information to group but many are outstanding.
 NC has sent information to LW in relation to Axess Card.


Team Southwark London Youth Games launched on 13/10

Coach education courses scheduled in Southwark

Community newsletter launching this year for groups to share good news
stories and advertise events. Newsletter will include an Inclusive Sport
section.

Planning permission has been approved for reinstatement of athletics
track at Southwark Park. Work to begin in November with Southwark
Athletics Centre opening in 2015

Youth Centre.
Salmon has lifts and bungee trampolines for pan disabilities which
provides users with feeling of flying.
5 previous Pro-Active Londons have become one organisations called
London Sport. New CEO and board has been appointed and new
strategy is currently being written.
Sport England Small Grants process is open. Xander Beck has
produced a presentation on Small Grants. AB noted that although
some funding pots specify under 25 or disability you can open sessions
out to other groups as long majority of participants are from target
group.



Currently undertaking outreach work with mental health and older adult
groups. Establishing a partnership with SLAM.






Looking to organise taster sessions in Southwark
Session currently running on Wednesday after and looking for more
participants in 14-25 age group.

Currently running girls disability session for U18s at Highshore and
COLA.
Looking for a new venue so if anyone is aware of a suitable facility

Tideway is volunteer lead sailing club based in Greenland Dock and is
only Sailing club in Southwark.
The weekday sessions close down for the winter at the end of October.
Sessions run Tuesday-Thursday and the club member sessions are on a
Sunday.
Charge associated with sessions due to nature of sport.
Youth boats are currently underutilised.
Tideway are interested in partnering with other groups for joint funding
bids

Natalie Coode has now left Fusion and replacement is expected in New
Year and GC to oversee Southwark until then.
Camberwell and Peckham Pulse have new disability family swim
sessions
New to role of Project and Events Co-ordinator for Fusion based in
Southwark 2 days a week
Currently no disability sport provision at GMH and so Fusion has
submitted an application to Boccia England for a development grant to
run 12 weeks of sessions followed by a competition.

FA Mash Up programme started on Sunday.
Swim sessions in Brixton currently has 55 registered ranging from 8-80
years old.
Running a performing arts project for all ages and siblings as well. The
sessions will be delivered by Stomp and participants will then go and see
the show. There is also the opportunity for participants to be taken on by
Stomp.
UK Deaf Sport Network conference . Interactive are holding a conference
on 13th November at City Hall with the focus on accessible marketing and

4. SDA Active- Ali Arab
 AA delivered attached presentation on SDA Active
 KB and AA are meeting next week to discuss programme further
 Group discussed free v subsidised activities
 Approximately 8-9% of Southwark population on SDA Active books
5. Funding Opportunities
 Every month London Sport produces a funding update. October’s funding
update attached.
 Southwark Sportability Grant will be running again this year. Further details will
be available next month. Previous recipients include Salmon Youth Centre,
Meaka Bears and Peckham BMX
 Sportivate- the next round of is likely to have a disability focus. Details to be
circulated when available.
 GLA’s Free Sport Winter Small Grants - deadline date is 31st October. No age
limit and organisations can apply for up to £1500.
 Exercise, Movement and Dance Delivery- funding to run a 10 week programme.
Closing date 30th November. Salmon Youth Centre will be submitting an
application.

Disability Champion model from Fusion Centres in Southwark is being
introduced pan London
8. LSBU- Sports Ambassadors – Jameelah Brinso
 60 sports ambassadors
 SCUK running at LSBU
 Those completing Adapted Sports course pledge to complete a number of
volunteering hours.
 Recruiting new ambassadors through coach web
 Identified that there is opportunity for students to shadow coaches at sessions
delivered by members of working group.
9. AOB
 DM- Local Offer website has been launched in Southwark and contains
information on all services for children and young people with SEN and disability.

their so please visit the website to check current lsitings.
 AF- Meaka Bears are looking to hold annual fun day in August 2015
 KB- Interactive Local Authority Forum being held on Thursday 16th October with
presentations from Sport England.
