2017 USA HOCKEY ELITE OFFICIATING EXPERIENCE

OBJECTIVES
To expose and train officials for International competition. To establish an officiating path that compliments
growth toward the International game. To identify potential international candidates for future IIHF
consideration.
CRITERIA FOR ATTENDANCE
The applicant must:
 Be a USA Hockey Completely Registered Official.

Be an American citizen or a landed immigrant.

Be an excellent skater.

Be among the top officials in his district.

Be experienced on-ice at the highest levels of hockey (NCAA & Minor Pro).

Have the desire to become an International official.

Have an exceptional attitude toward officiating.

Be willing to learn IIHF Rules and Procedures.

Be an outstanding hockey citizen.
APPLICATION
The USA Hockey Elite Officiating Experience will be attended by invitation only.
Applications will be distributed and submitted by District Referees-in-Chief ONLY!
May 8, 2017 - DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS TO YOUR DISTRICT REFEREE-IN-CHIEF.
Late applications, FAX copies or those not submitted through the District Referee-in-Chief will not be
accepted.
SELECTION PROCESS
Applications will be reviewed and participants selected by the USA Hockey Officiating Program Staff with
input by the USA Hockey Referee-in-Chief, Executive Director, District Referees-in-Chief and others. Selection
will be based on officiating ability, experience, contributions to the local hockey community and conduct
both on and off the ice.
COSTS
All costs (airfare, meals, room, and transportation) will be supplied and paid for by USA Hockey.
SUPERVISORS
Supervisors will be selected from the top American supervisors that are working at the minor professional,
IIHF, NCAA or Junior levels. Other top instructors within the USA Hockey Officiating Education Program,
including the Director of Officiating, District Referees-in-Chief, and Local Supervisors of Officials will also be
considered.
TYPICAL DAILY SCHEDULE
Morning:
Breakfast - On-Ice Workout - Meeting/Classroom - Lunch
Afternoon:
Meeting/Classroom - Group Activity - Game experience (USA Hockey Junior Festival)
Evening:
Dinner - Game experience (USA Hockey Junior Festival)
